Ashley’s Approach to Psychotherapy

Ashley’s approach to psychotherapy affirms the inherent value of each individual.  Using her experience and expertise, she will integrate an approach that is effective and meaningful for each individual.  Depending on the nature of the difficulties experienced, both shorter and longer-term work is offered.  During the self isolation and lockdown that has followed the COVID-19 outbreak, Ashley is able to offer tele therapy using a range on online video platforms so that people can retain distancing and stay safe from coronavirus whilst still receiving psychological support.

Psychotherapy enables people to examine unresolved conflicts, explore past and present issues and relationships. This process allows you to develop a deeper understanding of yourself, so that you can make the sought after changes in your life.

Psychodynamic psychotherapy, which is also known as insight-oriented therapy, informs Ashley’s approach to psychotherapy. This approach draws from object relations, ego psychology and self-psychology and is a shorter and less intense variant of psychoanalysis.

By understanding and evaluating interpersonal relationships and patterns that have developed over time in the frame of a safe, supportive and professional interpersonal relationship, you will have the opportunity to put in place strategies to make the necessary changes.

Ashley’s primary approach is Psychodynamic Psychotherapy but is trained in and draws from a variety of other psychological therapies, including Relational Psychotherapy, Family Systems and Family Therapy, Mindfulness, Solution Focused Therapy, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) and Narrative Therapy.  Ashley will work with you to determine what approach would be most appropriate for you.

Ashley adopts a developmental and family focused approach when working with children, young people and families.
