About Stokes Valley Fire Station
Stokes Valley Volunteer Fire Brigade has been serving the communities of Stokes Valley, Lower Hutt and Upper Hutt since 1940. We're pleased to also be part of the global community here on the World Wide Web. You can also find us on Facebook and Twitter.
THE BRIGADE
Stokes Valley Volunteer Fire Brigade and the fire district it manages are part of Region 3 of Fire and Emergency New Zealand.
The brigade was formally established on the 11th April 1940, when its inaugural meeting was held. At the meeting, 12 active members (plus a reserve) were elected and proposals were put forward for acquiring some basic fire-fighting equipment. To start with, the brigade was limited to a bucket-pump, slashers, and beaters.
Now, more than seventy years later, we have 25 members – comprising of five Officers (including a Chief and Deputy Chief), three Senior Fire Fighters, eight Qualified Firefighters Fire Fighters, three Firefighters and one Probationary Fire Fighter. Needless to say, our fire-fighting equipment is now a little more advanced than it was in 1940. We also have two fire appliances that are slightly faster out the door than the modified 1932 Hudson car and trailer used in the brigade's first few years.
