★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Had the worst experience at Sydenham Bakery. The service was atrocious. The old lady serving serving me shouted at me basically because I didn't know there was two sizes to my sausage roll! I wont be going back there.
The full convo went something like this. Could I have a sausage roll please. She gaves me one but it was a small one soIi said "sorry could I have a large one i didn't know there were two sizes" Old lady "YOU SAID SAUSAGE ROLL" what would you like there are three choices (grumpy angry face). I couldn't hear the 3 choices so I said "Sorry i couldnt hear that" She then proceeded to shout so loud that everyone in the bakery could hear her "I SAID ONION, GARLIC OR STANDARD" (Very angry old lady face) . Standard please I replied.
I don't expect to be treated in this manner, i wouldn't even treat a Dog like that.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I purchased 6 savoury scones for a morning tea shout and paid 50c per scone to have them buttered. A fair price, however only the bottom half were buttered with nothing on the top half. I expect better than that from sydenham bakery!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Sheryl and her team did an amazing job of creating a gorgeous chocolate gateau for my nephews birthday and even delivered it for a small fee.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This bakery has one of the biggest ranges I have been to. They have an awesome selection of filled rolls, sweets, savoring and even southland cheese rolls!
The pies however are the only thing I feel let's them down a bit. They are good pies, but nothing to brag about which is saying something compared to the rest of their selection.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Classic institution. Selection and range is really broad. Quality is excellent and everything is good value. It's pretty puzzling how difficult it is to get a decent sandwich in Christchurch, and I find myself detouring to drive past Sydenham Bakery. A lot of cafes could learn from a visit, whenever I see ciabattas or weird arty stacked things for $10+ it's enough to make me want to bang my head on the fridge glass repeatedly. Ka pai to mahi gang.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This is the second time I have been there. I bought the German dark bread which is really good. I also bought their brisket and mushroom pie. This is one of the best pies I have ever had. I will be back again
