About Te Hauora Runanga O Wairarapa

He Whakapapa

Te Hauora Runanga o Wairarapa (THROW) was established in 1985 as a community support service for Māori Health in the Wairarapa region.  It grew from initiatives developed by Māori Health workers seeking to establish a more focussed approach to the delivery of Community health services.  THROW has maintained extensive networks, both with Māori and non-Māori providers and community, and it adopts a "Kaupapa Māori" approach to support.

Whakatauaki (Proverb)

Pupuritia ki te Aka Matua

Me mau ko te Aka Matua

Kaua ko te Aka Taepa

The proverb comes from the story of Tawhaki, in particular the advice he received from his grandmother Whaitiri in that when he ascends to the heavens he should climb the main vine (Aka Matua) and not the hanging vine (Aka taepa).

Overwhelmed with the services provided by Te Hauora Runanga o Wairarapa. Responding to the mental & physical wellbeing of our brother Richard who suffered severe epileptic seizures and had a chronic drug and alcohol problem. Brother Richard grew up with Ben and Roy Couch so thank you Chopper for being there for us. Maora your gentleness towards Richard was a miracle, I only met you this morning and feel, your wairua has power to heal. Though he has passed away I saw a transformation that you had to see to believe. Richard with Maora's korero, was able to stop consuming alcohol, and his skin colour improved as did his speech and memory, his wairua was at peace. I live 2 kilometers away from him and saw him at least 4 times before his death and he was able to say no and walk away from alcohol. We were so proud of him and he was of himself because of his wellness. His death has come as a shock to us but our whanau this is a wake up as more of my whanau need to walk those same steps through the door of Te Hauora Runanga o Wairarapa. Nga mihi nui ki a koutou katoa.

I'm going to give the new general manager a chance to improve this service. Our Maori health services are not having great results. Due to over controled, non Maori policy and corrupt staff. While there was a lack of leadership. I have maintained my visits to the health wellbeing center. Each time I don't want to go

I came here one afternoon to see if this service could help support me while I was experiencing severe depression. They saw me and took all my details and listened to me, however had to use the front reception room. The receptionist I felt very sorry for her, it looked like she was being silently bullied out of the room. After giving them all my details and answered questions, I never heard from them again. What ever decision they made they never bothered to share it with me, so that I can try elsewhere like Pathways. Honestly, the bare minimum. call me back. I will never advise anyone to come to this fake social service. Especially if you are in a bad place. Not professional at all. Theyre a joke
