About Te Raukura Ki Kapiti

Te Raukura ki Kāpiti Performing Arts Centre is a partnership between Kāpiti College and the Kāpiti community, first conceived in 2013 and opening in February 2020. It is the first publicly owned specialist performance space on the Kāpiti Coast and seeks to meet the needs of young people, local performers and the people of the Kāpiti Coast.

The complex was designed by McKenzie Higham Architects, Wellington, and constructed by local company Multibuild Construction. Many of the subcontractors were local trades firms including Stones Electrical, Klee Plumbing and PureTech. Other significant contributions were made by Marshall Day Acoustic Engineers, Shand Shelton, StageMark, John Herbers and MDR.

The $12 million project was largely funded through the efforts of the Kāpiti College community, with the classrooms funded by the Ministry of Education. Kāpiti Coast District Council contributed $1.6 million as a community share and other significant contributors have been Coastlands, New Zealand Community Trust, Rotary Club of Paraparaumu, Goodmans Ltd as well as our many community supporters.

This facility is also acknowledged as being one of regional significance – there is no other community facility like this between Wellington and Palmerston North. Te Raukura will contribute to increased community self-reliance, capacity building and stability and provide opportunities for social, recreational, civil and cultural participation.

Nice new facility. Not quite finished yet and inaugural show had some sound problems, but am sure both will be rectified over the coming months.

Congratulations! An amazing facility for the area. Sound and visibility first class. Please consider erecting some form of railing to assist elderly when accessing the seating.

Marvellous great venue great ballet. Loved that the tiers were weakly steep so no worries about someone tall blocking the view.

Wonderful facility long awaited. Seats arranged for great viewing. Strongly suggest railing on the walls of theatre as many elderly struggled to climb up or down and they will be among your greatest supporters.

A well designed and built facility for Kapiti College and the community. The Coastlands theatre is a good size with very comfortable seats. Plenty of stage space and green room is very functional. Ample parking and good access to all. Nice decor. Wish I was still a student to enjoy these facilities.

Beautiful venue. Very professional but poor bar design. Only one person serving. Queue went back to the front doors. This needs addressing
