Waited over an hour for our food, queried the wait time only to be told it wouldn't be coming as they had forgotten the order. Worst service I've experienced. So can't comment on the actual food but also wouldn't recommend if you are celiac/gluten intolerant as the menu is mislabeled as to what is actually gluten free.

Would not recommend at all. Requested a BLAT without tomato (person allergic to these). Very rude woman advised that they were too busy to do this. Apparently the avo and tomato is made as a salsa. We asked if the salsa could be left and an avo cut and a few slices used, apparently this was too difficult. As the menu is very limited the only option for the person concerned was the BLAT. Oh and don’t order an iced coffee this takes about 90minutes to prepare. After asking about it 3 times. Very disappointing service and embarrassing for the couple who had taken us there after enjoying the restaurant under the previous management.

Left the place without food after waiting for over an hour. On asking, the woman at the counter replied, "oh yeah, we lost your docket". The staff didn't even bother to inform us or figure out when they saw us sitting at our table with just glasses of water for such a long time. We got a refund and and was given a 'card' to be used for a 'coffee/juice' NEXT TIME we visited them. Of course I declined! There wouldn't be a next time, guys! The way you run your business is a joke.

The place is nice , the pottery as well , the food was ok even if we waited 40 min for eggs on toast with just an other couple in the café … but the service ! OMG ! This lady doesn’t know how to make coffee , doesn’t know how smiling and just be nice and polite. The minimum in hospitality . She makes you the feeling as you want to leave , as you disturb her and you are not welcome. Please give your money to someone else , who deserves it .

I used to love this cafe but the service today was awful. We waited an hour and a half for food and were only served after I complained. They seemed to have lost our order multiple times and kept asking what we ordered. They also initially told me that they "didn't know" when I would be served and that they were prioritizing another group that came in before us and that everyone who did not belong to that group had been "pushed to the back." The manager refused to speak to me initially and eventually a waitress took me into a kitchen to speak to the manager/owner; who initially was very rude and told me off for being in the kitchen (although the waitress took me in). Awful, awful people and experience; made worse by the fact that we turned down a reservation at a better restaurant (Rothko) because their staff had told us there would be a wait time for food. This whole thing could have been avoided if staff had just told us there would be over an hour wait time when we ordered. Won't be going back and won't be recommending to anyone.

Definitely would not recommend going here. Although the setting is lovely, the service is terrible. They open at 9am and we arrived at 8.55am only to be greeted by a very rude woman who informed us that we were early and they hadn't finished setting up. Asked if we could see the menu and were told that the chef had called in sick so we couldn't order breakfast. Also no cabinet food available. When we decided to go elsewhere we were promptly ignored by the woman who didn't bother to respond when we politely thanked her for her time. Will not be back. Ended up having a wonderful breakfast at the Matakana Market Kitchen instead.

The women who I assume is the owner is absolutely vile and rude. The food was not what we ordered and her attitude was absolutely disgusting. This was once upon a time a beautiful cafe with fabulous food and now I will never step foot through the door again. I highly recommend nobody waste their time either !! Plenty more gorgeous cafes within Matakana to treat yourself to and enjoy with great owners who are respectful and friendly.

Beautiful spot and the food was fab! The Big Breakfast and Salmon Eggs Benny were perfection, very generous portions. Thank you!
