We just finished dinner for 8 of us and it was extremely disappointing. 5.30 pm arrival and they had no oysters, no clams, no linguine, and no loaded wedges. Re Happy Hour, only one cocktail is discounted. The Happy Hour $3.00 chicken wings, is actually only ONE WING!!! We all agreed Fish and Chips were better at our local. Beef and cheese burger was sloppy. $135.00 Crab legs a joke. One leg was dry/empty, terrible quality control. When I went to pay, our server/manager was very keen to listen, and to his credit, knocked $70 off the $470 bill.. But, overall, horrible. Wouldn't return.

The worst drink and food service that I've had, ordered drinks and it took, 25 minutes to get them. Was looking forward to a nice meal out, but all 5 of us left and went elsewhere

Smooth experience, though got all our dishes served all at once. Small dishes do not equal entreΓ©. No issues with wait times as others are reporting.

Good food except for the crab!! Dont order this! Its not fresh just wasted 62 bucks on this. Why is it even called Crab Shack?? when the crab is nasty! Should have read reviews before coming to this restaurant. Was our anniversary my husband was so disappointed ? Awesome service despite the nasty crab? Dear owner, Thank you for your response, yes we did raise this concern to the server and she came back to us explaining the crab came from Madagascar and thats it. Unfortunately this will cause your business a bad reputation if you don't do quality control of the food you serve.

I try real hard to look for any positive aspects for any establishment that is not meeting expectations. Unfortunately these guys really dropped the ball. Waiting an eternity for service, then to only have half the orders taken. Chased up the orders, then waited 25 to 30 minutes for the drinks to arrive. Cancelled our food orders and went else where.

The food here is so dismal and appalling, despite the appearance. I found it tasteless, unnecessarily creamy and oily, and had no taste of fresh seafood. The specks of seafood were hidden behind the greasiness of other ingredients. The salad was lifeless and drenched in vinaigrette, the prawn in the bun tasted pre-cooked, and the sauce on top was overpowering and too heavy. The only thing I enjoyed was the salt and pepper squid rings, but again that tasted like it had pre-cooked squid in it. The happy hour cocktail special only includes two drinks, which is pretty shocking. The meals and sides added up to around $110, so not worth the money. I would not come back.

We were a group 10, couple and friends, enjoyed the cosy music, friendly staff and the area. However I should say it is a bit pricey. Would still recommend.

We really enjoyed our first visit to Crab Shack over the weekend. It was fairly busy around lunch time, and we sat outside where you can look out to the wharf and boats. We seriously weren't expecting that view, so that was a massive bonus! Being the first time we were ordering crab to eat, we weren't sure what to go for. The waiter helped explain the different crabs and what sauces paired well with the different crabs. I think it was Snow crab that we went with in the end, shown in the photo, with 1kg mussels. All together, it was a perfect amount for two people. We enjoyed being so occupied cracking them open. Both the Crab and mussels were so tasty. It got messy, so make sure you don't wear your best white shirt! Lots of fun. There's not many places where you feel comfortable digging into your food with your fingers and getting messy! They bring you a small wash dish each with water in it, so you can clean your fingers as you need. The waiters and workers were all really attentive. Was so impressed with the whole experience that I left a tip. It's not something I do often in NZ, but we were just so impressed with the whole experience. Service, Food, and View. All perfect. After that, go grab an ice cream, there are lots of options nearby, and enjoy it walking around the wharf.
