Ordered an item after much discussion with the Director, Grant of Think Water Timaru (Washington Pumps) and when it arrived we went for a pick up. On the phone Grant promised a price inclusive of GST & Freight as a final price.
Grant was unavailable upon arrival so had to deal with staffs over the counter who said it was the price over the phone + GST + Freight. When the male staff consulted others in the office, Grant came pacing from the workshop and said "If you have a problem you get the item from another place". This was happening in the presence of 2 other customers who walked in after us. These walk-ins were swiftly taken away. Grant said "we're not losing money on Freight because of you". In our final invoice we were still charged Freight, an amount that we did not agree to and treated poorly and yet the freight is still ZERO in our invoice. We were arm twisted we thought as we had already arranged for an electrician and plumber to fit this part and had we not taken the product we would end up paying for their call-outs for no work.
We're certain that this would not have happened with a Kiwi or a European as we thought we were rudely spoken to seeing as we might be people of colour for Grant, a scathing indictment of the education and values of the person in case. The director should be ashamed of himself for not honouring his word. A polar opposite of what you expect New Zealand to be.
We strongly advise to get a written quote before purchasing and if you identify yourselves as a "Foreigner" then kindly stay away ! You will be treated poorly if you even have a low-tone and respectful discussion while you disagree.
