About Thistle Building Company
We are super proud of our Scottish Heritage at Thistle… with many Scottish ties.
Simon has a passion for building. His very first project in Scotland was an old Scottish school built in 1894. The joy of bringing the old school back to life fuelled his love of building, and won him Scottish Building Apprentice of the Year in 1999.
Sophie’s love of business was inherited from her Scottish Grandfather, who gifted her a silver thistle pendant when she was a girl, which has become our much loved Thistle logo!
Returning to New Zealand with our two wee Scottish boys gave us the amazing opportunity to establish Thistle Building Company in 2007.

The minute we received council approval they began the job and finished in record speed. The team was one I would recommend due not only to their efficiency and professionalism, but due also to the calibre of the trades people that did the work. They were happy to oblige my, at times, idiosyncratic preferences for recycled doors, non-standard design, and specific plaster finishing. They were a joy to work with.

They were very professional throughout the building process, from initial design through to completion, communicating ideas on where we could make improvements and also where we could save money to keep the build on budget.
They were very patient with our limited building experience and ever changing ideas and also flexible with the design of the house allowing us to make changes to the initial plans to work for us on the section. The result is a beautiful, quality home that was designed by us, to suit our lifestyle.
