About Thomas Driving School
Thomas Driving School was founded in 2021 by Cody Thomas, an ex-Driver Testing Officer. Cody noticed that there was a lack of quality and consistency of safety standards being taught by instructors in the North Shore area and decided something needed to be done. Even large driving schools can have huge inconsistencies when it comes to keeping the training of their instructors consistent, and this isn’t fair for their students who can receive poor training in return. Our instructors have a background in conducting driving tests and have a very advanced understanding of the marking criteria and what it takes to pass your test.
At Thomas Driving School we strive to help everyone become a safer driver on New Zealand roads. You can be rest assured that you or your loved ones will be truly safe and knowledgeable on the roads after having driving lessons with us. We provide a wide range of services and even support driving lessons in other languages if it is more comfortable for you or your children (English, Mandarin, Cantonese). Our Instructor
Hello! My name is Cody and I am an ex Driver Testing Officer who has conducted more than 15,000 driving tests on the North Shore. I am a dually NZTA qualified Driving Instructor and Driver Testing Officer.
I noticed that there was a lack of quality, reliable and consistent driver training being taught throughout Auckland. Unfortunately due to my role as a Testing Officer, I was unable to teach students about the test requirements and how to be a safe and responsible driver on New Zealand roads. Realising that my abilities and knowledge of the testing system would be the perfect asset in creating safe drivers and helping students pass their test confidently, I decided to retire as a Testing Officer and become a Driving Instructor.
I have a lot of patience, knowledge and experience with a wide range of people from all backgrounds. Please feel free to book me in for a lesson or email me with any questions. Thank you!

β β β β β I sat my restricted last year December. It was a complete failure; got my five lessons with this man, straight pass today. He is super calm, super chill, and super understanding- probably everything you'd look for in a driving instructor. I remember driving with this one instructor 'cause I had booked for him before I found out about Cody, and damn, I just could not. I definitely recommend 2 hours lesson, it's just absolutely worth it. Reasonably priced, his banters will get you through those 2 hours like it's 20 minutes. Thanks to Cody again for helping me obtain my freedom.

During our lesson he was kind and calm and made sure I knew exactly what I was doing right and how to correct the things I was doing wrong. β β β β β Cody is a top-class instructor, after not having to own a car for almost half a decade (due to home-work proximity) I felt like I needed a refresher to convert my expired international license before taking the practical exam. Passed my exam straight away only after a couple of sessions. It's an advantage to have someone like Cody who has been a testing officer. Cut to the chase as far as my situation is concerned and guided me what are the most important points for the exam. Pleasant to deal with, look no further, whether you're a beginner or experienced driver.

His overall guidance and notes helped me to sharpen my driving skills to to pass the full license test in one go.
