This shop is the best in NZ and Wayne is a great guy with lots of knowledge! If you want seconds when it comes to bait then go to the other guys !! He is a straight shooter but also a great guy

My first ever bad experience with TOP CATCH. First experience dealing with the Coromandel shop. Wayne the manager was a stand up guy and sold me a rod on Saturday evening but upon returning to the batch I found the last eyelet of the new rod was split to line cutting perfection? I called the shop and left a message saying I was coming back in the morning and when I arrived at 630am after driving an hour I was greeted by an obnoxious older lady that was on the offensive and crossed her arms before I'd even reached the steps. She stood aside, barely letting me in and waited until I had reached the counter before she left her post and walked to the counter and asked "Yes?" I explained the situation the rod was faulty and I needed it replaced. Her response was "I'm not doing that, you don't have any ID and I don't know who you are". I said I would go get the receipt from the car and she then said she couldn't do it as she didn't know how, and I would have to wait until Wayne returned on Tuesday ..all the while maintaining her hostile manner. Considering it's a weekend fishing town I found this a bit hard to understand. TOP CATCH makes a point of being a first point of call for advice and good service for all things tackle and this lady was beyond incompetent. I stated the Consumer Guarantees Act allowed me a full refund as I'm well within my 30 days and the rod hadn't even seen the water yet. She said "Sorry doesn't change a thing". I gave up. She then donned a smile and was obviously happy with herself at successfully ruining my morning. A few curses were exchanged and I left to go get a pie and try and make it to the water before change of light. We had to drive past the shop again and she was back in the doorway waving at us like some crazy crack head? Why you guys have a lady like that working for you I don't know but the website should state whether the shop is manned by a manager or a trainee as basic law cannot be upheld if the one person in the shop is not trained or qualified to make refunds. If you can't trust someone to make calls like that you shouldn't trust them to take care of your customers.
