About Us
Melissa and Dean have both had a lifetime love of art, with their first date spent wandering around art galleries in Auckland. They met while studying Graphic Design and have worked together ever since. After owning a design agency for over 20 years, in late 2018 they saw an opportunity for a change of direction and Turua Gallery was born.
It had been many years since a gallery has graced the village of St Heliers, and with the beautiful ever-changing collection of work from their emerging and celebrated New Zealand artists, Turua Gallery has become the place for people to get their art fix. Exhibiting a range of group and solo shows, Turua Gallery always invites the community to celebrate on opening nights with nibbles and bubbles. Many of you will have met their now adult daughters, Ruby and Lucy, during these event nights.
Whether you’re looking for a special piece for your home, bach, or maybe you’d just like to have a look around; Turua Gallery is a relaxed space where everyone is welcome.
Dean has continued to create; regularly selling his stunning paintings through the gallery. Melissa works to ensure pieces are special to each person, often sourcing directly from artists, arranging viewings in people’s homes and organising commissions.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We’ve visited Turua Gallery several times & it’s now a regular habit. Such a gorgeous, light filled contemporary gallery. The art is always changing so there’s something new to see each time. The owners are friendly & down to earth, making the solo exhibition openings (we’ve been to two) relaxed & informal. There’s also a framer in there who creates fantastic bespoke frames. Love it!!
