About Whitireia Park

The Enviroschools Programme is a long-term, whole-school programme, where schools create their own unique pathway to sustainability.  Schools signed up to the Programme have the support of a facilitator, a network of other schools and a set of resources pulling together ideas that have worked for schools over the 10 years that the programme has been operating.

Drive to and from is quite the challenge with the narrow windy road but apart from that super place.

If you're visiting Porirua in the summer time then you can't leave without spending a day here. It's the most beautiful place to spend with the family and the more you walk around past the furthest place you can drive the better. Its definately worth the hike. Take your pillows, books, beach chairs and some shade and it will be the best place to picnic, we wouldn't have left if the gates didn't close lolol

Whitireia Park is a headland offering stunning views of Mana Island and Porirua Harbour. You can drive all the way to the top to enjoy the views. Enjoy beautiful sunsets as well. There are roads and walkways taking you close to the water. From the Public Car Park on the top of the park, one can take the Onepoto Road to drive down to the very sheltered and swim friendly "Te Onepoto Bay" This is a gated park and I think is open from 6am till 7pm until midsummer

Beautiful natural scenery, can get quite windy on some days. Narrow roads to go down to the beach. Clean beaches, toilets available. Car parks available. Walking tracks available.

Great views but takes on the brunt of the prevailing westerly wind. Take something warm to wear regardless of what the weather looks like- it can be very brisk up there

Best sunset views and fantastic place to explore with family. My dogs favourite place but most coastal parts are now on lead only due to wildlife. The higher points are best for off lead. Awesome views from the top of the hill over Titahi Bay and Porirua harbour.

Another excellent easy assess dog walking park in the Wellington region. Dogs must be on a lead due to blue penguin and other protected species. Tracks are excellent and well marked out.
