β β β β β What a lovely little gem! Fantastic collection of local art and tasty treats. Definitely worth a stop while awaiting the ferry (and even missing a few to really enjoy the neighborhood).

β β β β β Delicious (and HUGE) vegan ice cream made with fresh fruit. Also yummy vegan cake. Super cool art in the cafe, worth doing a detour to Rawene for!

β β β β β Fabulous cafe on the Hokianga. Spacious place that is also an amazing art gallery with a lot of very nice art pieces on display. Live musician was playing some relaxing guitar. Perfect place for a breakfast, lunch or dinner. It was open late on Sat (til 8pm) as we discovered, after finding the takeaway up the road closed at 6!! The New Era Cafe food was delicious, clean and prices were a bit Aucklandish, however we were happy to find this quality place. Great selection of tea, freshly made pizzas, yummy burgers and veggie options. Staff were very friendly and food came quickly, highly recommend.

β β β β β We stopped in Rawene to go to The Boatshed Cafe which was unfortunately closed for a function on 9 April 2022. There were not many other options in Rawene for food, but we saw this cafe was open. It was 12.50pm so we were looking for lunch. We stood looking at the menu for about 5 minutes before we decided what we wanted and approached the counter. When we went to order we were told βthe kitchen is closed for cleaningβ we asked how long that might be for she replied βa while..β and then said βyou can get cabinet food or coffeeβ but with not many options in the cabinet apart from some muffins we decided to leave and try our luck in Opononi. We were very confused by this experience. It seemed pretty clear to us that the young girls behind the counter simply could not be bothered taking our order.

β β β β β After a walk around Rawene decided to stop on for a coffee. Really lovely cafe, great decor, friendly staff, and great coffee. Tried their kumera cake and it was big enough for two, served with yogurt, bush honey and little flower, was absolutely delicious! The art gallery in the same building was interesting and beautifully presented. Plus a second hand book shop completed the experience. Great place to stop and wait for the Narrow car ferry.

β β β β β Beautiful cafe and art gallery, tasty chicken and bacon panini, savoury scone and chocolate cake. Also that was the best iced mocha that Iβve had in NZ
The gallery is really amazing with many articles to buy.
The service is great and kind.
