ACG Parnell College - Parnell
About ACG Parnell College
Positive outcomes
The generally instructional mode of teaching suits the school’s strong academic focus and is complemented by the fostering of students’ self-efficacy, and ownership of their own learning. ERO observed positive, highly focused, and well-managed classrooms throughout the school. The school’s achievement information indicates high levels of student achievement across Cambridge assessments, and consistently high University Entrance level achievement.
Extracurricular opportunities are encouraged, including music and performance, and an increased profile has been given to participation in sports. Learning support and pastoral care help students in their wellbeing and achievement. This support includes tutor and mentoring programmes, relevant programmes for English language learners and the employment of a counsellor.

β β β β β A review of Russell Brooke. In the 80's he was a music teacher at Westlake Boys who lost his temper at me and whacked me over the head with a thick textbook, dragged me outside screamed at me and threatened to cane me. Why? I was getting bullied in his music class by another and was trying to get my stationery off a bully.

β β β β β As a review from a former student, I would not recommend this school to anyone. Yes, they may have good overall reports and a good academic focused program. But I can assure you that the school teaches nothing about responsibility, independence, and maturity. ACG Parnell felt more like a brand or a business than a school, only overcrowding the school to get more money and acknowledgement. While I was at this school, I didn't feel as though I was being treated my age, with being belittled by teachers and staff. At ACG Parnell College, they treat you more like someone in the masses, you aren't recognised and you don't feel like you're of any importance to anyone in the school, no one relies on you. This school could improve majorly if included some leadership programs and councils.

β β β β β My child went to this school ( so I am a verified buyer)
My child did really well at the school - she won multiple awards every year.
ACG has a tradition for academic success - from the yearbook, I can see quite a few sports as well other activities/groups.
As for the teachers, my child met a sub-standard one. I heard a lot about him for his incompetence. One year was wasted for this subject. We were quite disappointed.

β β β β β The school provides clean facilities. The learning is strict and you do quite a bit of tests. School lacks having outdoors/PE class time and is quite squished inside. Teachers are quite cool though. And Jennie from BLACKPINK went her back in 2010

β β β β β A fantastic school that pushes the students to achieve their academic best. Most students who have complaints would probably be better suited to a public school that pushed for sports and gives NCEA credits for riding a bike.

β β β β β Private school with lots of Asian students, good academy results but just felt like if we want our next generation to study so hard, why coming here while we can do it in our home town?

β β β β β The right school for my son who is academic and not very sporty (in fact, he wanted a school that did not focus on sport). It's been a huge jump coming from a public primary school into ACG Parnell, but he has learned more in the last 6 months than in the 6 years prior. There is a lot of homework, but over time students learn how to efficiently manage this and there are tests almost every week, and exams from Year 7... but what a great preparation for university years. Finally, as a parent I can see what he's learning and where he needs extra help. If you want your kid to go to a school that focuses on academic learning and extension of students, then send them here. If you want your child to go to a school that will be focusing more on "inquiry learning" and "child led learning", then this is not the right school for them. This school provides lots of clubs and extracurricular activities too - and their music, art and drama departments are awesome.
