About Adventure Playground
Come with the Adventure Playground team on an amazing 4×4 self drive, off road tour. All of our Rotorua 4×4 self drive tours are headed up by one of our experienced guides in a guide vehicle, who will host you for the duration of your off road experience. You will love our new, nippy 2-seater 4×4 self drive vehicles! We start your ride with a full safety briefing, before giving you a spin around our training paddock to get used to your ‘wheels’ before we start exploring the beautiful Mount Ngongotaha countryside & native bush. We take you to various scenic lookouts during your tour so make sure you bring your camera to capture the moment. All safety gear is provided.
2 people to a buggy with plenty of swaps for eligible drivers.
Our Rotorua 4×4 Self Drive Tours are a great option for family outings, birthday parties and corporate days out. All drivers must hold a valid driving license for a car (minimum NZ restricted license or a full overseas license). There will be opportunities for eligible drivers to swap seats during the tours. As always, we have a firm focus on fun & safety. No alcohol cannot be consumed prior to participating in our self-drive activities. All of our guides hold a current first aid certificate.

It was really fun and definitely we will come back again the next time we are at Rotorua.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Came and did the 1 hour horse trek with my friend. We were not disappointed. Our guide was very onto it and made sure everyone was comfortable before we set off. In fact every staff member we came into contact with was very pleasant and made us feel welcome. The hour went by very quickly and we we didn’t want to leave! The view at the top the hill was well worth the climb (not that we were doing any of the work!). All the horses looked healthy and well looked after. We’ll definitely be back again.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Highly recommend the horse track riding and the horse trainers and their staff were very friendly and welcoming we even enjoyed a small talk here and there on the way, it's one of the best experiences I have had , worth the shot , they take you up the hill with the beautiful lake view

Bruce, our guide, was friendly, helpful and knowledgeable about the legends and details of the area, and there was a good balance between the driving and sightseeing.
We also did the skeet shooting. Another really well run and fun activity.
Ihaia, our guide and advisor, was also excellent. Very helpful and obviously enjoyed what he was doing. Gave us a good rundown on additional new activities they were planning, and made a real effort to make it an entertaining afternoon
We'll definitely be going again, Totally recommended.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Our group of 9 had our very first horse trekking experience there few days ago.
The booked session was initially on Sunday but had to change to the next day due to terrible weather. They made the arrangement willingly without any hesitation.
We arrived one hour early before our session started. They were still very happy to let us start right away.
We were so blessed to have such a beautiful weather despite the forecast was showing 70% of rain throughout the day.
All of us had enjoyed the trip and my daughter even said that was the best experience she has ever had in Rotorua. (Not to mention she begged for going back again on the following day)

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We completed 2 activities here the clay shooting and 4wd buggy experience. We had an absolute blast today and our guide/host Sean was amazing. One of the best days ever and worth every cent. Will be repeating this experience nect time we were down. Neither my daughter or wife had ever shot a gun before and both were nervous at the start but left grinning ear to ear. 4wd in summer is one time you won't mind wearing a mask as loads of dust so do be prepared to have a dust bath. Sun glasses are definitely recommended too for same reason. Such a blast going up and down the hill.
