Cool piece of history of not a little underwhelming. If you're passing by, pop in. Don't go too far out of your way to see it however. The fossils are easy enough to see but it would be better if the info board was in the container with the fossils rather than seperate from them entirely. Easy to drive down if you've visited the elephant rocks and it's free.

A very short hike to an informational sign and a small covered display over the fossils. Really, the rocks and canyon are even more attractive for the space and the fossils are just a bonus. It's such a short distance you may as well Steph your legs and look. For more interesting rocks and a longer stay with a bathroom, try Elephant Rocks nearby!

You have to use your imagination with the whale fragments but the short walk is beautiful. Amazing history. Not pram friendly

A Great part of Pre-Historic History of NZ. The Plateau was part of the Seabed, Millions of Years ago. It is now 220m above Sealevel and it is worn out by Erosion through Wind and Water, forming these Statues known as the Elephant Rocks.

If you have been endearingly dubbed an "ancient living fossil" or the "Indiana Jones of paleontology", then this place will suit you to a tee - perfectly or exactly right place. Paleontology is the study of the history of life on Earth as based on fossils. Fossils are the remains of plants, animals, fungi, bacteria, and single-celled living things that have been replaced by rock material or impressions of organisms preserved in rock.

This is a great little stop off kids and adults will love it there is a small area for parking on the side of the road. The walk down to the rocks and fossils is short but there are stairs.

Beautiful place to see an ancient old fossil. Easy walk with fantastic views. Highly recommend visiting as part of the Vanished World Tour.
