★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This was a perfect place to start our NZ trip. One of the “top ten one day hikes” in New Zealand brought us here. Greg is a local who is a great host and had a wonderful place. We did the Bald Spur Track just behind the lodge, but the top of Wairere Falls, a short drive south, was the highlight of our trip. Behind the lodge is the District Museum and then to the adjacent Te Aroha Mineral Spas for a long soak. Two blocks away is a small-town main street with grocery, restaurants and coffee shops. A very nice place to spend three days.
