About Aroy Thai Eatery - The Terrace
From humble beginnings of a family opening a Thai restaurant in Palmerston North in 1998, to opening the first AROY restaurant in 2008, we have been serving New Zealanders fresh and affordable Thai cuisine for decades. Our authentic recipes have been handed down for generations, and form the essence of our style of cuisine.
When I moved to Wellington as a student in 2005, I noticed there was a shortage of good, authentic Thai food outlets – and those that did exist were on the expensive side. Back in the 1990s, many Thai restaurants in New Zealand were fine-dining experiences with a price point to match. With limited Asian ingredients readily available, many of these restaurants would simply leave a lot of traditional Thai dishes off their menus. My mother and grandmother would always insist on making those traditional meals available by tweaking them as best they could with the ingredients available.

β β β β β I had lunch here with friends two days ago. The food was delicious! I had the yellow curry but everything on the table looked very tempting. Even though the restaurant was full of lunch-time diners the service was fast and friendly. I can't wait to eat there again!

β β β β β Great food and friendly staff. Gets busy during lunch time, but its worth the wait. Having said that, takeaways are yummy too ;)
Oh, the most importantly it is very reasonably priced. Not being too greedy helps keeping the shop full most of the time. We can just hope that the rest of the retail places in Wellington would follow the same approach ;)

β β β β β Very good portions and delicious food. Last time I was there I saw everyone get their food before us, despite ordering much earlier, we waited 30 minutes. Except for that, food was good.

β β β β β I initially spotted what looked like a leg of an insect in the chicken soup, so I took it back to the kitchen to be told that it's only a bean sprout. After 10 min later when I had gone through 80% of the soup I spot a mosquito floating in the soup... Utterly disgusting.. Don't know how often this happens here but first time it has happened to me in my life..

β β β β β They are definitely reputed but I guess because of that now they are not much willing to give better experience, even if customer goes away permanently!
I bought Chilli chicken, Vege option and it was alright, looked vegetarian.
Two days later went again and I bought Fried rice from the self service machine and selected Vege option.
I opened takeaway container after going back to work, and found lots of eggs.
I contacted them on their email ID mentioning that -
There was no clear indication on ordering system stating, there will be eggs in fried rice. This is not suitable to me and mentioned invoice number etc.
They replied and tried to educate me with definition of Vegetarianism but did not have any concern or say about the system that didn't show properly what's in my meal!!!
Additionally advising me - "Next time when you order, we suggest that you ask for no eggs."
Anyway, not showing content of my meal is bit weird, don't want to take it to legal proceedings but I would certainly avoid them because of
1. not satisfactory reply and
2. having no clear visibility of food ingredients.
