If I let know how absolutely beautiful, restful and luxurious Atahuri is I will never be able to get an impromptu booking there. So I'm keeping it a secret!

If you're serious about your luxury accommodation and have the time for a bit of relaxation away from Wellington or on your way North to Auckland then this is a must. Just 45 minutes up the coast from Wellington City and nestled in the natural sand dunes of Pekapeka sit four stunningly appointed villa suites. Nothing is too much trouble for your host and owner, Robyn from the freshly baked cake to the endless supply of espresso flat whites. The architect designed suites have luxury bathrooms and bedrooms with local art designed lighting and beautiful little touches everywhere. Relax, chill out and take in the views of Kapiti Island or borrow a bicycle and cycle to the local cafes. Cross the dunes and walk the volcanic sand beaches or sit on the drift wood logs with a wine and read. Breakfast is extensive, well presented and served in the main house area with open windows and island views. Nothing is too much trouble for your host, Robyn, suggest you take advantage of the dinner in the main area as the local cafes do not match the quality and ambience of Atahuri. Ten out of Ten.

Stunning building. The architect's touches are everywhere in the features and fittings of the suites. Each luxury suite has a private outdoor area for relaxing with the backdrop of the sea. The host is helpful and very nice. Breakfast is superb and aranged 3 course meals are all fantastic. All round great experience IF you're willing to pay the $500-$600 per night cost.

We must return to this fabulous coast and in particular, to this wonderful lodge. Robyn made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived, sitting with tea and cake whilst discussing possible activities in the area. Our room was beautiful and comfortable, with a fabulous bathroom, with windows and patio doors to a private outdoor area, from which you can cross the grass to the sand dunes and the beach (safe swimming). I already miss my evening beach walks and my husband found it perfect for a barefoot run before breakfast. Robyn is a great and enthusiastic cook, so breakfast was a fabulous start to each day. Dinner was better still... three delicious courses, accompanied by happy conversation with our well-travelled host... When we left after two nights, it was like leaving an old friend. And the views from the dining table, across the sand dunes to a beautiful sunset - glorious! We wished we had stayed longer, so that we could visit Kapiti Island (a bird reserve) and walk the Paekakariki Escarpment trail. There is much to explore, with beach and sea for miles, backed by high hills, with delightful small towns along the way. We did get to the Southward Motor Museum... an amazing collection and an unexpected treat. The Kapiti coast caught us by surprise, perhaps a well kept secret

There are not enough stars to rate this beautiful property. Robyn is a magnificent hostess, bubbly personality, well travelled with interesting stories to tell. A VERY attentive hostess but respects the privacy of her guests. Great location, fabulous local food and wine, and so many additional treats. The architecturally designed individual suites are of the highest standard an sit nestled in the sand dunes to provide additional privacy to the courtyards attached to each suite. Tastefully decorated rooms including the main house where cake tea/coffee is served on arrival and followed up with pre-dinner drinks and nibbles. The small sitting room shares a fireplace with the living room and displays some of Robyn’s collectables from her travels. Attention to detail is evident from the moment you arrive at the property. I we’re ever back in NZ we will definitely be spending more than two nights here.
