THE HISTORY OF AVALON RUGBY FOOTBALL CLUB
Early Beginings
Avalon RFC was established on 28 November 1979 with the amalgamation of the Naenae Old Boys’ and Taita RFCs and have a proud history with many cherished memorable moments on their beloved Fraser Park.
Previous Achievements
Avalon won the Swindale Shield in 1991 and 2001 and were back-to-back semi-finalists in 2003 and 2004. As part of its come back year in 2010, Avalon made the Hardham Cup final.
The WOLFPACK
In late 2014, under the leadership of CDO Scott Waldrom, Avalon RFC officially apdopted the Wolf as it's emblem and the club soon became known as Avalon Wolves RFC. The wolf gave Avalon a new identity and today symbolises the core values of the club including loyalty, leadership, strength, family and the power of teamwork. The mentality of the Wolf continues to grow and collectively all members of Avalon are part of the "WOLFPACK".
Shortly after the adpotion of the Wolf and after a tough three years of being in 2nd Division Rugby, Avalon returned to Premier Rugby in 2015 and this momentum within the club continues.
Representation
In the club's proud history it has fielded a number of All Blacks, Maori All Black, Samoan, Niuean and Provincial Representatives.
In more recent years the club has seen the likes of Kat-Whata Simpkins take the world stage wearing the 7s Black Ferns Jersey, Asafo Aumua making hat-trick, try scoring history with the Wellington Lions plus representing NZ in the U20s squad, and Scott Waldrom as the assistant coach of the All Black 7s.
