β β β β β On our trip back to New Zealand we started in Wellington, before heading to the South Island of New Zealand, at first shopped around looking for a car rental company that would look after us down south lol good luck, then we found AVIS and Jeremy the Area Manager at Nelson Airport. They had the best rates by Far too hot to print.
Yes it might be a little off the beaten track for some people, but we found one of the most relaxing ways to start a holiday would recommend this to anyone if youβre not in a rush.
Take the interlslander morning ferry from Welling to Picton 2.5 hrs orsom trip. βOne of the most spectacular ferry rides in the worldβ. On arrival in Picton Bus to Nelson (1.5hrs $2o.00) Established in 1841, Nelson is the second oldest developed city in New Zealand and the oldest in the South Island. It is famous for its art and crafts. Drop in and see Jeremy and the crew and youβre on your way. Stay a day or so exploring you wonβt regret it.
I will be recommending this place to all my friends and family. AVIS customer service was amazing. Everyone I spoke with was polite and helpful. The Toyota Pardo we rented was clean and proved to be a reliable ride during our South Island vacation loved it so much we are doing the trip again this September. β β β β β Car was Great, desk worker wasn't very friendly. She wasn't happy with our countries driver licence exemptions, and she never told us that there was a gps in the car before we rented one. She left the building at the same time we went to grab the car so there was no way to return the gps... bummed. Most avis are well run.

β β β β β This is the worst car rental agency. Me and my husband rented out a toyota corolla car from Nelson airport on the 10 November 2017. We were driving from our rental property in stokes to farewell spit. On our way uphill the accelerator wasn't responsive at all and the car kept beeping at intervals. We thought it was engine overheating and stopped the car to cool it. After we resumed our drive there was smoke coming out of the car. We immediately stopped the car and called for road side assistance. We were towed to motueka and dropped at Nelson Airport. We were provided a replacement car which was again a toyota corolla similar model. The next day we again drove from stokes to farewell spit and then over the coming days to Blenheim, Picton etc. We experienced no issues with the replacement car. When we dropped the rental car to the airport on 13th November. We were informed that we needed to pay $1500 for damaging the brake pads and rotor and the manager put the blame on us saying it was driver error as their car was new with 2500kms. We did not agree to this as we drove the replacement car which had 30622 km on it, provided by avis, on the same route and other places on the next day and to many other places by the same driver. If we were bad driver we would have damaged the replacement car too. We have received no apology or help from avis instead we are being made to pay $900 for towing, $500 for replacement parts and another $100 for I don't know what. Spoke to the manager of the nelson branch who just continued to blame us as we signed a contract with avis and they have pictures of the damaged brake. He is unwilling to help us out and when we called customer care they asked me to sort it out with the nelson manager. This experience has ruined our holiday and will put us in financial difficulty. I will never use Avis in the future and will recommended others not to use this rental service too.

β β β β β We hired a car from Avis (Nelson) last month and had a really good experience with their service. Initially I was quite skeptical given the cheaper than market rates, but the car we got was solid and the pick up experience was great. What really blew us away was what happened at drop off. On the night we were due to drop off the car and fly away from Nelson, we locked some luggage in the boot, dropped off the key, and had lost all hopes in retrieving them. We called the customer service help line after hours, left a message, and a staff member actually retrieved the luggage and dropped it off at the airport for us before we flew off. It was outside of his working hours. We're eternally grateful. Thank you again for your amazing service.
