About Avon Medical Centre
Originally from the UK, I trained in Sussex in 1990 as a registered nurse. I worked mainy in the acute medical fields including gastroenterology and neurology. In 1997 I completed midwifery training at King’s College in London and worked as a midwife until moving to New Zealand in 2003 with my large family.
Having decided to return solely to nursing, my work life since living here has been rewarding and varied - from acute emergency care, practice nursing and school nursing to sexual health, women’s health and colposcopy. I have a strong and passionate interest in women’s health and providing equitable service provision to the community. I'm proud to work with a motivated, positive and incredibly skilled, patient-centred team.
Outside of work, I enjoy meeting up with all the ex-colleagues and great friends from my varied career.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ To many patients not enough Drs' landed up in hospital no calls from Dr when I was told there would be. I called again was told they have a new system and maybe message not getting through ' Appalling' This was three days after my initial call. Squeezed in with locum who said he would refer me to the Base Hospital and sent me home. Took myself to hospital and test revealed I should have been treated earlier as it had become a severe problem. Left that practice now

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Nurses and reception are great, but everything else is a constant frustration. Booked phone consultations where the doctor never calls, never see the same doctor twice. Long waits to get an appointment. Prescriptions not sent through to the pharmacy when they said they would. I wish I could change but there's not really another close option.

Ever since this service became a PHO EVERY SINGLE DOCTOR who genuinely CARED, who were KIND, COMEPENDENT, LISTENED, WHO ACTUALLY KNEW WHO I WAS, MY MEDICAL HISTORY, AND THE MOST BADIC INFORMATION INCLUDING WHAT FORM TO USE HAVE GONE! DISGUSTING! I have NO FAITH in Avon Medical AS THEY DO MORE HARM THAN GOOD!!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Now that all the good doctors are gone it's down to few that leave in a few months. I asked to come in to be checked after dropping 20kg on my foot experiencing black/purple brusing and swelling. All to be told by a nurse it sounded fine after describing this and that it hurt to put covered in shoes. Didn't even bother to run an xray just in case. Lazy.
