Dont't forget to book at the doc before, it wasn't really clear on the website (self-registration) for the 3 beds but 4 matress.
We did it in December and it was perfect, so good to ear the sound of the cracks in the ice with spread on in all the valley !
One of my favorite place in NZ, hope to see you again little red hut.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Amazing hike and overnight. Get there early to ensure you get one of the three bunks! Keep an eye on rockfalls from the moraine making big splashes near the terminal face of the Tasman Glacier!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ One of the coolest little hut I've visited in NZ. Nestled next to the Tasmin Glacer and the start of the Ball Pass route. The hut us only small with 3 bunks, but there is plenty of space to pitch a tent.
There are few ammentites at the hut with rain water on tap and a long drop toilet.
It's a great place for a day walk or an overnight trip. The walk to get there can be difficult at stages where you have to climb over loose rocks.
The start of the track is a 4wd track which can be used to cut down a bit of time. It's really only suited to high 4wds though

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ You can this view when you step out of the Ball Hut. It is easy walk to it and it could take only 2 hours from lake Tasman car park for experienced hikers. It is definitelly worth going in good weather conditions. Those sunrise, sunset and night/star views are fabulous.
