First the old battery was checked, then, after it was certain that the battery was bad and not the alternator broken, the mechanic gave me two options for a new one. We choose the Exide 60CMF for 170 NZ$. This price included everything (battery, check, fitting, gst), so no hidden cost, perfect. As a backpacker this eases your mind.
Besides, the mechanic was nice. He explained everything he was doing (okay, no rocket science here), I could help him a little passing the tools ...
Now I could do it myself, nice!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ On the 30th December after 4pm, my battery went flat as I was parking in a loading bay at the back of the Mall in Filleul Street. I asked for help at every garage around. Some people didn't have the gear to start the car. I went to the place I usually take my car to, but having a jump starter in front of my eyes, the person there refused to help me (I'm not going back there). He couldn't trust me, he said, I even
offered to leave my wallet with him as a guarantee for me to return the equipment. There was Bill, at almost 5pm. He didn't have a car but he walked with me all the way to the car and helped me to get it up and running he didn't even charge me but offered to take a look at the car the next day. So I did a few days after, receiving a nice service. Thanks very much Bill!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Would not recommend, went for a quote to get my tires realigned. The guy said yes I would, also mentioned I had a month to go on my two back tires quoting me $520. So I went to get a quote at Otago tires, the guy actually measured it and said this was a lie and said I had another years worth. So for all the people who are not car savvy avoid!
