About Bernina Sewing Centre
Bernina Sewing Centre has been servicing the Manawatu for over 70 years. We contribute our success to the fact that our different sewing skills allow us to offer complete professional advice in a variety of areas from tailoring, dressmaking, creative sewing, quilting etc. We’re passionate about creating and designing and love to share our knowledge with experienced and novice sewers. The team at our store have a wealth of knowledge when it comes to sewing machines, some training and support from Bernina NZ has also contributed to our success.
Our Sewing Machine Technician – Fred works on site in our technical department, and this means our clients are fortunate to be able to have their machines serviced in a very short time. Its vitally important that you have your machine serviced regularly to achieve the best results – so that 12 monthly “WOF” is highly recommended. As our workshop is steadily busy and you may not want to be without your machine for more than a day or so – we offer a same day book in service.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ You girls have been such long time friends. Even living in the U.S. i enjoy my Bernina visit when ever i come home. There isnt a thing i can not stich with my Betnina! I just picked up a vintage mini matic lol....had a spare bobbin case, put it in turned machine on, fiddled with tension 5 seconds, sews like a champ....... poor little machine is in the doll making business now lol.

Excellent very patient staff who spent time with me demonstrating the machine and answering my questions. The machine is great, I really love it, but really it was the good old fashioned service that sold it. Looking forward to attending classes there!

Excellent service, great team. Fred - Mechanic knows his trade (Yes he is a Fred!) and the gals Robin and Shirley always happy and helpful. Had a problem with my Aurora 440, rang earlier in week, and feared I would not be sewing for days! No such worry -"Bring it in Friday and it will be ready before 1pm".. It was! Thanks Fred.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I am entirely disgusted and disappointed by the service which I received after asking this place to service my sewing machine. The two women I dealt with were incredibly rude and condescending. After my experience here I felt as though I was trying to be gaslit and that they had absolutely no respect for their customers.
They called me about two weeks after taking my sewing machine in saying that “The guy plugged it in and it just blew-up” and to come in and collect it. Shortly after was lockdown so I didn’t have the chance. A few weeks after the lockdown finished I received another call asking to pay a bill of $150.
I explained the last call and the woman stated that “He may have come in after lockdown and worked on your sewing machine and forgot what happened”. I argued that this was not fair so they asked me to pay an assessment fee instead. They could not give me an answer as to what this would actually be paying for and after months of them not getting back to, they then denied what was said in the previous phone call, and told me that there was ‘miscommunication’ and ‘I did not understand’.
This was incredibly disappointing but I decided to pay them, as it was not a significant amount and I was tired of dealing with such abhorrent service. I do acknowledge that they seemed to be confused about what happened with my service, but again, I do not feel this was my fault and I expected them to at least recognise that.
However, after I paid, I did tell the woman that I felt this was disappointing service and she was being condescending. She said “I don’t think so” and proceeded to belittle me.
Do not deal with this shop. They clearly have no respect or honesty.
