★ ★ ★ ★ ★ It wasn't black but scared our young kids due to being murky so they barely swam. Had a slight smell like its stagnant but I think thats due to the fact its off to side of current. Or polluted. Not sure really but compared to streams like Inangahua near Reefton doesn't look very clean

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Nice place. Popular for swimming. Can be very calm in winter, more crowded in summer. Nice place to enjoy the sun and have a picnic. The walkway is on one side and a large lawn with public barbecue and restrooms on the other side across the hole. Families and people of all ages like the place very much. The rope to swing and dive into the hole is very popular among the kids (and the elderly, haha!). Huge fun!
