BlackPearl Café is one of the most popular café that mainly selling bubble tea in Palmerston North. The BlackPearl Café story began in 2011. It was found by Joey and Paul. They are keen on having coffee and bubble tea. For that reason, they had an idea to sell coffee and bubble tea in Palmerston North. Joey and Paul started selling coffee in a very tiny coffee cart at the corner of Rangitikei Street. In 2012, they decided to merchandise coffee and bubble tea in the Downtown Cinema by using the name of “Black Pearl Café”.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Got served by the manager. She gave me dirty looks when I said I wanted extra boba in the bubble tea (which she didn’t even give me!!!). I even saw her stick her hand in my sons drink to get out some of the ice. The nice Asian boy was not there but my son told me that he’s seen the manager yell at him in front of customers. Disgusting management. I hope you sort this out, I only come back to this restaurant for the amazing Pad Thai but I will bring my business elsewhere if I see this manager one more time. Have seen other comments about the same one. Do better Black Pearl.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The team were friendly and the person who served me reccomended me a good drink. I do say that the Boba drinks are more sweet than other places that I have gone to so if you want less sugar then best to say it in your order. The green apple flavour is super sugary so if you get it I suggest asking for little to no sugar with it. It was my friend's drink which I tried.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Love the chicken katsu and spicy Korean chicken which comes with veggies and rice & mayo & BBQ sauces & gravy. Also go for bubble tea. They have a loyalty card after 5 stamps you get a free bubble tea.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We were late having lunch ans stumbled upon Black Pearl. There were plenty of people when we had passed it earlier so figured it must be good, with a good turn over of food.
We stood at the counter waiting to be seated before having to excuse ourselves to the four staff standing talking. We were taken to a table and given absolutely filthy menus. Oil and food all over (I have pics). I ordered a Coke No Sugar while we looked at the menus. We waited 15 minutes then I asked someone if we could order and where my drink was. My drink turned up, just a cold, sealed bottle. No glass or straw, so not sure why it took so long. We ordered our food. The chips came out about 15 mins later. Some were hot, the rest were cold. We were still waiting at the one hour mark for our main. When it came, the chicken was delicious. The vegetables were undercooked onion, 3 tiny pieces of carrot a tiny piece of broccoli. We weren’t given anything to eat it with and had to go to the counter and ask for cutlery for our table and the table next to ours. We showed the waitress the filthy menu and she smiled and said it had been busy in the morning.
So much potential but was just wrong in too many places.

Friendly but slow service, loyalty cards for free bubble teas, but at my most recent visit, I waited for a long time and when it arrived it came without pearls, and I did not have time to check it. Quite disappointing.
Under current management the staff turnover seems quite high. Delays can make social distancing difficult. I saw another customer who had pre-ordered drinks, turn up to find the order not yet made. There are a wide range of drinks including bubble teas, coffee etc. and reasonably priced Asian meals and nibbles. There is nolonger a USB charging point as there used to be.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I have already been to this cafe several times and I have never been disappointed. There is a diverse list of Eastern Asian cuisine and all of the ones I've tried have been delicious. General service of the place is great with food being prepared quickly even when the cafe is busier. Also as someone who eats a bit more the portion sizes are perfect letting you leave the place not hungry but also not too full as well. One of the go to spots I recommend in Palmerston North. Additionally their bubble tea is pretty good as well. Keep up the good work guys.

The boba I get in welly (Tiger restaurant) is probably more authentic etc but I loved the taste of the bubble tea here...and I typically don't like bubble tea!
