About Black Pearl Charters
I grew up fishing in Wellington chasing anything with fins. In the past I have run charters in the Bay of Islands NZ, catching everything from Snapper to Marlin and I have been a top Trout guide in Queenstown. After fishing the Wellington area for over 20 years I established Black Pearl Charters in 2013 and I am enjoying every minute of it.
My philosophy on guiding is to get you guys out there fishing and having fun. So I have built up a fishing charter that I would want to fish with if i was going on a charter – fast, clean, safe but most all fun.
Whether this is your first time or you have fished the world, you won’t be disappointed by my knowledge of the area and the fishing we have on offer. My friendly relaxed attitude will be sure to make for an enjoyable day on the water.

β β β β β This was the most exciting morning on Aitutaki, Thank you Mike. What an excellent fishing morning we had and caught lots of fish with his expert knowledge. Felt so safe in his boat and it had all the emergency equipment on board. Mike provided lots of snacks and drinks and taught us both about fishing in the Pacific Ocean. Can not thank Mike enough and to top it all off it was my birthday on the 12/9 and I got to catch my dream Mahi Mahi. Thank you so much Mike we had the best time under your guidance. I will Recommend him to anyone that are intreasted in going out to use him wish there were more like him in this world

β β β β β We had an awesome time with Matt on our evening charter ! His boat was super comfortable with generous space and was just perfect to sit and relax on. Although the fish were a little quieter today we had an awesome time and Matt certainly made it a great trip !

β β β β β Worst boat trip ever. I'm shocked because the reviews are so positive & thats why we booked him. 4 months of cancelations apparently because of the weather, we finally went out as a late 75th birthday gift for my Mum. He told us not to wear life jackets even though we asked for them. 3/4 of us were new to fishing and 2 nearly went overboard in the rough sea he took us into, so rough all of us were bruised afterwards.
A 4 hour fishing trip & we caught nothing. In his defense, he took us to 3 different spots. I've been on fishing trips before but never anything this bad. Disappointing and a waste of money. One star because he was a nice guy.

β β β β β We had a great time with Matt on board the Black Pearl. Matt is a laid back and extremely knowledgeable skipper who puts in the hard yards to get his customers a good catch. My wife caught her first fish, a good size trevally, which she was stoked with. We'll definitely be back!
