Awesome walk, pretty tricky in places, expect the full hour. Take water if it's a nice day. Get a handle at the pub afterwards ?

Well preserved little settlement with plenty of history and a man made lake as a highlight. Pretty warm water temperature and quiet area, perfect for a wee stopover. The cafe/bar has a cosy atmosphere with remnent photographs of the old times (1860s and the gold mining rush period). Worth a visit!!

Blue Lake is one of those amazing places to visit. The view is out of this world. Was in the area for work and took some time out to have a quick look around. Plan on returning to take more photos and walk around the full lake. At the southern end there is a large car park up top as well as one down at the water's edge.

Stay at the Vulcan Hotel or at least have a drink and some really nice food. Take the 3 hour walk around the lake, kayak or swim. It's well worth the drive detour.

This place will blow your mind!! It's nothing like the pictures, it's a thousand times better!! If you're driving through the area you must stop to enjoy its beauty. There are toilets, walking tracks, and a tavern where you can stop for a pint, food, or just to rest. :)

We recently did a day trip out to The Blue Lake at St Bathans in Central Otago. We were based in Alexandra so the trip was roughly around 45 minutes by car. When we arrived the lake was picture perfect. We were the only ones there. It was so tranquil. We walked around d the edge as far as we were able. The weather was perfect and the reflections in the water were amazing. After spending quite some time y the lake side we headed back up to the road where the Vulcan Hotel is situated. This Hotel is rumored to be haunted. We ordered our lunch and sat outside a ross the road at their Beer Garden. It has big old tables with large umbrellas to protect you from the blazing sunshine. There are also some large shady trees and its dog friendly. This is definitely well worth a visit. The locals were really friendly and the service and food were exceptional.
