About Bordeaux Bakery

BORDEAUX BAKERY WELLINGTON

Bordeaux Bakery has operated in Wellington, New Zealand for over 25 years being established by its original founder, Jean-Louis Macarde, to produce and retail the highest quality authentic French- style artisan breads and patisserie treats.

The bakery began small, operating from a premises in the suburb of Northland, with all products being produced and sold on site. The bakery grew in reputation and production due to the quality of the authentic French bread, which resulted in a relocation to a larger site on Thorndon Quay in 1994. With increasing demand from cafes, restaurants, and other retailers wanting French style breads, the bakery was moved to an even larger and custom designed bakery at 220 Thorndon Quay.

Bordeaux Bakery started as, and remains, an independent, family-owned business. Our focus is on providing fresh daily-baked bread, cakes, sweet treats, and savouries.

A Long Wait for some Incredibly LackLustre Food & Seriously Sub-par service leaving much to be desired. I Will Not Be Returning. I ordered the vege breakfast and was told it would be a 45 min wait for anything ordered from the menu, but no wait for the cabinet food, so I asked for a pesto bread from the cabinet as something to nibble on while we waited. The pesto bread finally arrived at our table, accompanying our main breakfast orders, 45 mins later! Pathetic! Especially after specifically telling me there was no wait on cabinet food. At this point anything to nibble on obviously becomes redundant. My vege breakfast included 2 "poached" eggs that were completely overdone (see photo). The toast barely had any butter on it. The hollandaise sauce was virtually nonexistent. The entire dish lacked seasoning and just had no flavor to it. It tasted like the kind of cardboard-esque meal my nana would've eaten during WWII. So far below expectations for a French bakery. Finally when I had finished up the barely edible portions on my plate, I told the guy at the counter about my below-average food experience to which he replied: "We are really busy today" followed by, "maybe your eggs got mixed up with someone else's eggs who wanted them done differently". So he made two excuses with an extremely flippant attitude as if he had more important things to do and I was bothering him. No solution, refund or even genuine apology was offered. This kind of service is completely unprofessional and completely unacceptable. I will also note, that being in Wellington, you would think they would have more Vegan options with their desserts but only 1 vegan slice was available, amongst 50 or so custard-cream-containing desserts and pastries. Would be great for them to get with the times and offer more variety; but I guess I'll never know because I shall not ever return to this place.

Delicious French pastry treats, pies, salads, and cafe items. An amazing range of French inspired sweets and a cabinet of savoury rolls and panini that the staff will toast for you. A small selection of salads. Good coffee

Their Steak and Blue Cheese Pies are quite disappointing ..... look good but definitely not much flavour and meat at all in them!! Also my large flat white coffee was only warmish!! ?☹️?

I’ve been a long time customer of Bordeaux Bakery, always popping in to get their French doughnuts (aka cronuts) which are a hit in my family. I’ve also loved had their cabinet food in various occasions and loved the flavours. So we were pretty excited when we had a morning off and could order breakfast here. Unfortunately, we were left super disappointed. While our full breakfasts were well presented and made interesting with the fries, the meal fell short of our expectations. The food was lukewarm and undercooked. For $26 a meal, we were disappointed. The coffee was the only positive aspect of our visit. I would have given only three stars, but perhaps they were having a bad day in the kitchen or other factors due to COVID. Plus I know their other food is good, this the four stars. I’ll be back, but will stick to getting food from the cabinet and their pastries.
