About Brides on Thorndon & Major Tomms Suit Hire
Brides on Thorndon was started in 1999 by current owner and operator, Jillian. In those early days, this gorgeous boutique called 219 Thorndon Quay home, inspiring it’s name.
In early 2003, Brides on Thorndon moved across the road to Level One at 220 Thorndon Quay, a more spacious and elegant showroom. 2011 saw Brides On Thorndon move downtown to the CBD of Wellington to a stunning new showroom. This showroom boasted beautiful window displays, on the corner of Customhouse Quay and Brandon St. Finally in 2018, Brides on Thorndon moved to its current location, 52 Cambridge Terrace, Te Aro - a generous, bright boutique with charm and flair.
We are proud to be Wellington’s stockists of beautiful collections from designers :-
Pronovias of Barcelona, St Patrick, Madison James, Allure and Wilderly from Australia, Herve Paris and Demetrios Cosmobella Range.
We have specially selected all our designs and styles to ensure we have a wide range of gowns for every bride and her personality. Our designer gowns are sourced from all over the world.
As well as our range of bridal gowns we have a beautiful selection of bridal accessories, including veils, lingerie and jewellery.

I tried on wedding dresses with my then 23 year old son, and we had such a great experience, something I will never forget doing with my son. I came out in the dress I ended up buying, which was totally different to what I had pictured. I felt so comfortable and right on our wedding day! Very happy with the whole experience!

It got so so so many compliments! I tried on about 9 dresses all very different so that I could see exactly what I liked.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Not a great experience at all. Very dated decor and older style dresses, after explaining what I was after several dresses were pulled out that were the opposite. I specifically said no crepe and 3 dresses were exactly this, I was not listened to at all and wasn’t even able to go looking though. One looked so ridiculous we were in hysterics. I was then told “we don’t have many dresses in your size”. I am between a size 10 and size 12. Left $50 out of pocket and only giving 2 stars because of the laugh. Ended up getting a dress from Paperswan bridal and would highly recommend, amazing experience.
