CAFE ESPLANADE - Cafeesplanade.nz

Revive’s traditional gas-fired drum roaster relies on the skills of a Master Coffee Roaster to produce consistently high-quality coffee. It’s his senses of sight, sound and smell that play an integral part in the success of our roast.

Overpriced and overcooked. Avoid dining off menu if possible. Pros - Chips were one of the best cooked chips I've ever had (only reason its getting 2 stars) - Outside eating area was well kept and good morning shade Cons Overpriced - Every item on the menu does not include meat as part of the menu, $5 for two rashers of bacon on top of $14.50 for eggs on toast. Ordered chicken and bacon in the Caesar salad (an additional 11.50) and received what seemed to be half portions of each. A level japanese soup spoon of aioli cost us $1.50 Poor quality - scrambled eggs overcooked, partner didn't even get a third of a way though before stealing my salad, Salad was good but the price point made it underwhelming.

Expensive drinks and food $3.70 for a can of coke; $12.90 for a bowl of fries (tomato sauce all over the outside of the bowl); a brunch cake only partially heated through (there were really cold bits in the cake and some parts really hot). Nice location but I won't be returning here for a meal or drink.

Came in for lunch, had the beef burger and corn fritters. The food was average for the price we paid for it. There are many other places you could go for a nicer lunch. Have been here many times for the coffee and drinks and have been pleased every time. Coffee is always great. Staff were happy and helpful, with quick service. Highly recommend for a coffee or drink and something from the cabinet.

Great service and a awesome place, the small birds that you hear singing around you is also enjoying the meal with you.

After some pretty terrible experiences in the past, my partner convinced me to give this place another go with my two kids in tow. What followed was an expensive, average coffee and two very hungry kids. When I asked where the food was (a simple bowl of fries) the lady said ‘You were told there would be a 30 min wait on food’. a) We weren’t, b) it had already been 40 mins and c) everyone around us had already got their food despite ordering after us. I asked for my money back and she said ‘The food is on the way’. I said it doesn’t take 40 minutes to produce a bowl of fries and she informed me the kitchen was extremely busy. I counted 5 tables. Three of which had already got their food. I wouldn’t usually post a review like this but felt I needed to do my bit to dissuade others from experiencing a consistently awful service. I understand the cafe has recently lost the rights to be the only food and drink outlet in the Esplanade. GOOD!

A couple of weeks back my young family, wife and I visited Cafe Esplanade for lunch. We're from an area of Auckland that's obsessed and snobby about it's cafe food culture. While ordering we were made aware of a 25 min wait, which is a bare standard minimum at any time of day in Auckland let alone the lunch period. We were satisfied with meal portion sizes, presentation and costs. We enjoyed the range of gluten free food on offer, professional service, and overall cleanliness of the outdoor area. There's an atmosphere of genuineness at Cafe Esplanade that's fast becoming obsolete in the main centres of NZ. Keep up the great service.

Only the environment and the customer services are good. The taste of the food was terrible, not even ok. Taste like FAST FOOD but at RESTAURANT PRICES. I order waffles with strawberries and chocolate, it was not with fresh strawberries at the strawberries season..just canned ones

I bought my mother here for her 84th birthday, 23rd Feb.  Thoroughly disappointed in the meals. We ordered corn fritters for $17, small wedges $11 and a kids ham and cheese toastie. As you can see by the pictures, this is what greeted us.  I'd just like to mention I had just driven from Wellington to Palmerston North to take my mum out for lunch for her birthday (I was freaking starving). First off, the very salty and small corn fritters, I often order corn fritters so I have experience to say, that these were the smallest, saltiest and very expensive corn fritters, I have had in a long time.  Couldn't believe I would have had to add $5 for bacon. Next, the wedges - its definitely a different type of bacon for it to be cut up like so, an inexpensive bacon, or maybe, ham?   Just awful, also super salty, the cheese wasn't freshly melted so premade? or just badly made. Next! The easiest meal by far - chips and a ham and cheese toastie - ordered, because there is just no doubt my 6yo wouldn't eat it, but wait!!! a few bites in, she didn't want it, said it tasted funny, on closer inspection there was a tomato in it! WHAT! We pulled out the tomato but the damage has been done, she wasn't going to eat it.  Further to this - I had to ask "where is my coffee" as it hadn't arrived - I had finished my AWFUL fritters and so I had my coffee for dessert. I actually want my money back - Café Esplanade - can I have my $50.20 back please? Then to add insult to injury - it was freezing inside - I have heaps of padding - but I was freezing, my mum and child were freezing - this is a place that seems to cater to over 65yo's - the aircon was on to cold, the fans were on and the door was open - unsure if the chill was to cater for the waitstaff. This meal was an utter disgrace - I wasn't going to make a scene on my mums birthday but oh boy, any other day I would have. Apparently there is an ad going around on the radio - best food in town - It ISN'T!  The worst food in town 100% If you get them on a good day - consider it a miracle.  We won't be back.
