This place has probably one of the most beautiful views in Queenstown and our host John was one of the most knowledgeable and pleasant wine hosts that I've ever met. The warm ambience, beautiful views and tasty wine makes this place a must visit for anyone hoping to learn more about the regions rich wine history.

A cosy and lovely place to taste some of the most exotic wine produced in Otago! The drive up was a little tricky because it's all one lane but we were glad we dropped by to see this place for ourselves. To top it off, we got a bottle of Mason Pinot Noir 2016 which we will open it 5 years from now to celebrate our anniversary. Worth noting wine tasting is complementary but you can choose to donate if you decide not to buy any bottle (which I will strongly advise again).

Getting there is half the adventure!!! Chard road, that leads to the winery, is both spectacular and adrenaline pumping with its windy turns and astonishing views that are true to the core of NZ. This is a true gem. The tasting area is simple but functional and pays great homage to the biking souls with its great person on bike work of art in the main yard. The bathrooms are cleverly named to pay homage to the raging waters along its shores. The wine tasting if FREE and you get the feel that this small but great vineyard is special. There were two houses on the property that look as though they belong to the family. Given its astonishing locations it would be amazing if you could stay there but growing too big might also come at a cost. This is a must do on your wine tour!

Beautiful vineyard with great history attached to it! The narrow, winding road on the cliffside leading to the main vineyard area is the original road into Queenstown according to the in-house sommelier. All in all, a very cool place with delicious wines! (Just be careful driving on the narrow, winding road)

Chard Farm ticks every box - great wine, great location and superb staff. Getting here is half the fun, the drive along the narrow gravel road hugs the edge of the cliff at times and gives spectacular views back to the AJ Hackett Bungee Centre, or once you round the corner, down the Kawarau River valley to the winery. You'll notice a number of people stopping here just for photos as this is also a Lord of the Rings Film Location (PIllars of the Kings). The Winery is set in a lovely old building in a lovely setting and parking is right out the door. Uniquely, Chard Farm does not charge a tasting fee, but instead asks for donations to a local hospice. (During our visit they were instead collecting for Australian bushfire relief, a lovely touch), The wine tasting experience is superb - personal, friendly and knowledgable, and the wines, especially the pinots and chardonnays were among the best we've tasted in NZ (we freighted a case back to Australia). A must do if you're in the region and want to taste wine. Great wine, a lovely drive in, and wonderful people behind the counter.

Pauline was the most incredible host - Chard Farm was the highlight of the 5 wineries we visited. Their 2019 Closeburn Chardonnay is sensational - definitely not your standard Chardonnay

A beautiful winery grounds along a small dirt road which is actually the historical access road for Queenstown! Wonderful wine, great sommelier service and incredible views of the valley

Our group came to Chard Farm on a quite gloomy day, the view over the gorge still look spectacular though. We were hosted by Jessie who is so knowledgeable, friendly and nice! She speaks fluently in Mandarin, Cantonese which are surely a bonus point to some of my Chinese friends. Great wine and even better stories! Looking forward to be back here next time we are in Queenstown!
