Our team
Since 2010, Climate & Plumbing has been owned and operated by Sam and Lee Tyson. The most recent owners in Climate & Plumbing’s rich history, they continue to evolve the brand and prove they care deeply for the people of Taranaki.
Our team of 25, are highly skilled and have been working in the indoor climate, plumbing and gasfitting industries for many years. You can expect the highest of standards of workmanship and service from each and every one of us. We invite you to visit our showroom to meet our team and learn more about our products and services.
Serving Taranaki for over 60 years
In 1956, Don Holyoake began the business that would eventually become known as Climate & Plumbing. Previously a farmer, Don was very innovative and interested in just about everything. At the beginning, D H Holyoake & Co Ltd designed and installed central heating systems using oil as the energy source. Later, Don’s son joined the business and introduced central heating systems that were powered with natural gas. They also installed extraction air systems and fabricated steel, among other things.
Towards the end of 1991, Dave Scott and his two sons bought the business and renamed it Scott Sheetmetal & Heating Ltd. They introduced more products and services into the heating, ventilation and cooling side of the business while continuing to advance the steel fabrication side. In 2007, one of the sons, Steve, took over the business and renamed it “Rivet”.
In November 2008, Steve opened the “Rivet, Climate by Design” showroom at 103 Leach Street in New Plymouth, essentially separating the heating, ventilation and cooling side of the business from the fabrication side.
Then in 2010, Lee and Sam Tyson took ownership of the heating and cooling side of the business and shortened the name to “Climate”. Rivet is still owned by Steve Scott and remains a successful, innovative sheet metal fabrication business.
In early 2014, Climate & Plumbing expanded its expertise and service offerings by purchasing Anchor & Ellis, a Taranaki company well known in the plumbing, gasfitting, and drainlaying industry. This allowed Climate & Plumbing to create a commercial maintenance division to look after schools, rest homes, businesses, manufacturing plants, commercial and industrial sites.
In late 2014, Climate & Plumbing purchased Plumbwell, another longstanding plumbing company with a reliable and trustworthy reputation in New Plymouth. This move qualified Climate & Plumbing to offer an even greater range of wood fires, a larger variety of water heating systems, and the capability to provide additional commercial and domestic plumbing and gasfitting, installation and maintenance services.
With the move into plumbing and to identify that Climate do plumbing and gasfitting, as well as heating, ventilation and cooling, “Plumbing” was added to the name in 2016.
Thanks to our history, we can fairly say that Climate & Plumbing has been enhancing the health, safety, comfort, and productivity of home and work environments in Taranaki for over 60 years.

As an idea born from our Climate & Plumbing showroom, in 2019 we launched our online shopping website www.climateathome.nz.
With access to so many specialised products we wanted to allow people unable to visit our showroom, or for those who choose to shop online, the opportunity to purchase the products we love and make it easy by having the items delivered to their door throughout New Zealand.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We were wanting to see if installing a larger infinity hot water system would be better for when we have 2 showers going at the same time. Climate came out that day and had a look. Darren was really good he advised it wouldn't really make a difference by installing a larger unit, and explained what we really needed to do. Gave us several options and ball park figures of costs, time etc. Cheers kurt

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Wow. I am so impressed! Our hot water cylinder sprung a bad leak on the Friday before a long weekend. We're rural on rainwater tank, so this was stressful in summer. From our first call, it was just over 2 hours before they arrived. In the meantime, they talked us through how to stop the leak. The plumber & apprentice were professional, clear, friendly & followed covid guides. Our HWC needed replacement & they moved their schedule around to install first thing the first working day after the weekend. In the meantime, they made sure our old tank was powered down & draining outside our home.
Their customer service is fantastic & super helpful with how we'd organise for this unexpected significant expense.
The instal was professional & efficient and they warned me one of the new valves hadn't worked, so they used an old one until they could get a replacement. That night, the old valve gave out & they arrived within 2 hours of our call to replace the next day.
They were calm, clear, professional, fast, respectful & efficient. They have our custom for life and a lifelong enthusiastic recommendation.
