Closed - Solway

We had a great suite. Ample room with a separate bedroom, kitchen and lounge with a huge sofa and dining table. Pool and ample outdoor space was brilliant info a heatwave. Owner was a dog lover and our dog was more than welcome. Definately be coming back

Nice stay, room was clean and tidy. Kids loved the pool. Some wear and tear in the rooms. Wet floor shower makes the floor tiles in the bathroom and partly out into the kitchen very slippery and is a head injury waiting to happen. There is a spa but we weren't allowed in it as they don't allow children under 14 in there, even if we were in there too. We didn't find out out about this until we tried to book the spa as this rule is not mentioned anywhere we could see. We felt the ladies response to our enquires about the spa pool were a little standoffish.

Owners were very obliging. Amenities were fantastic. The room was very clean and very comfortable . Surroundings were very pleasant and relaxing. Thank you so much for the stay.

Hotel suits needs. Dog friendly and really nice hosts. The room itself was a little beaten up and would expect a bit better at prices paid. Bed was great, and really good shower, room just needed the little things fixed up to make you feel like you are getting value for money

Easy from start to finish. Got a free upgrade. Lovely big warm rooms. Fantastic water pressure in shower. Clean and kept clean daily. And fantastic people working there. And the clincher was my labrador was able to stay. Would definately stay again.

Affordable and had all the basic necessities you need in a room. Easy wifi and the heat pump was nice. The bed was very uncomfortable and some of the facilities should be updated. There were hairs on the bedding.

This motel is very aptly named. We stayed in the 'Exec 1 bedroom unit' boasting a spa bath/jacuzzi, dishwasher, conservatory and more- paid $200 for the night. As accommodation was in very short supply in Masterton, we really had few options of where to stay. The Exec 1 bedroom unit is very tired, has not been upgraded since it was built in the early 1990s, and it shows. The wallpaper was hanging off the wall in places, the carpet is very old , flattened nylon pile, the spa bath is crazed and the crazing doesn't look very attractive at all. Not that I wanted to put my 'delicate' bits on the bath crazing or sit in a 'goldfish bowl' in the conservatory. You have to go down several stairs to get to the bathroom or the kitchen- a bit of a hazard if you need the bathroom during the night. As it was mid-summer, we didn't feel inclined to run a hot bath or sit in the conservatory (basically a 'glass-house') to get even hotter. As we arrived late afternoon and left early the next morning, the dishwasher was not required for our 2 coffee cups. The whole motel had a 'run down' feel with the gardens needing some serious work. We didn't get to see any other units so I can't comment on their state or condition. The good points, though, the unit had a heat pump/air conditioning unit; the motel is very close to quite a few good eating places which you can walk to; the host was helpful and replaced the TV remote batteries which were flat; the pool looked good and people were enjoying it. Would I go back there and stay again? Hmmmmm...we wouldn't pay that price for the Exec 1 bedroom unit. We stayed in a number of motels all over the North Island on our road trip. None cost us anywhere near as much as this unit did. Several other motels offered 1 bedroom units, all were in a tidier refurbished/ as new condition, all had heat pumps. I think we'll drive on past next time.

Stayed here with a big group. Hosts were always friendly and helpful even though our group could get quite noisy.. Rooms clean and tidy. Pool facility was great. Location handy to most things. Recommend this place highly.
