★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Magnificent venue, but they were clearly short on staff - there was a sign at the counter.
We ordered our lunch just before midday and the last of our group finally received their meals around 2pm. My mussel meal was nice but not amazing. Our 2 under 5's were served last.
We chose this venue carefully as we were keen to support the ' locals ' but were a bit disappointed

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The mussel pot was delicious; very tasty and fresh. However, the other dishes were not good at all (pasta and mussel fritters). The pasta had very little seafood in it and was covered in cheese, which made it very heavy and taste like a microwave meal. The mussel fritter was mostly flour, very dry and tasteless. Everything took a very long time to arrive, so we all ended up eating at different times, with a couple of us finishing our meals before the mussel pot was even served.

Being able to idle along the highway and spot the Mussel Kitchen open for business.
Fresh mussels served the way you like them cooked by someone who is an expert at cooking mussels.
Nice cool beer with my mussel fritters and salad.
Can't remember the number of times we have stopped here, but each time has been wonderful.
Thanks for working through these trying COVID times.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ If you like seafood and smoked fish then a visit to Mussel Kitchen is a must, located just outside Coromandel town on a large property with views to the sea is a delightful place to spend some time. Fabulous food options and great drinks list makes Mussel Kitchen a great placeplace to while away the afternoon and enjoy a great experience, highly recommended.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Couldn't get pizza today but everything else we wanted was avaliable. Super yummy food, small wait as we came during a busy time but otherwise a 10/10 experience! Highly reccomend as a place to stop while in Coromandel! Would 100% come back again! We had the garlic/white wine mussel pot, seafood tomato chilli pasta, seafood basil pesto pasta and kids chicken tenders. Yum!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We discovered the Mussel Kitchen from other Google reviews and it was better than we could have ever expected. The restaurant and outdoor beer garden were neat, clean spacious and simple.
We were greeted with the smells of the their wood fired pizza oven, but we didn't come for the pizza - we drove over an hour for the seafood! We ordered the seafood platter which provided a taste of the popular menu items - but the real star of the table were the steamed green shell mussels. Perfection.
It helps when the food is caught right across the way in the bay. The service was super friendly and if you are lucky you will hear the server sing along to the radio. We highly recommend this restaurant, even if you have to drive an hour to get there.
