β β β β β It's been years since I last called into this place. It's now run down & the decore is shabby. The curtains ate half hanging off the rail. Surprisingly the tap beer was fresh enough, the seafood share plate was tasty and the chips perfect. Go figure.

β β β β β Could not be more disappointed. Ordered one bowl of wedges at 12pm, at 12.35 the bowl had still not arrived. Initially we were told only the bar menu was available, pretty poor for a local pub at prime lunch time on a weekend in peak season. The place is filthy, service slow and rude. There was another couple that seemingly had been waiting a very long time, and had checked on meals twice before almost walking out.
We asked for a refund and left. No apology. Will not be back.

β β β β β Positive: The rooms, beds and bathrooms were very clean and tidy this was a plus. the rooms warmed once the heaters were on for a little while. for most of it, the accommodation met our needs and decor was like old style hotels.. Negative: We didn't know what kitchen foods we were allowed to use, there was no way of knowing if we were allowed breakfast from these as it looks like someone else's food is there so we were unsure what we could use of not. Help yourself was something we don't do. we also were unsure how to get in contact with the management about any questions. there was not bar access from the rooms so this was not hotel rooms but almost something separate.... very noisy at night with water tanks filling up etc. besides checking in we didn't get to see the staff, so if we had any issues there was not communications..

β β β β β this is the best pub in town, but it needs better food availability as if you want food you usually have to go somewhere else. some tasty meals or a new chef would go a long way . but drinks are cheaper than the top pub and staff here is alot friendlyer

β β β β β Positive: Great location for a one night stay in Alex. Good value for money. Nice view from the rooms.. Negative: I could hear the talking in the next room. They weren't noisy guests, just not particularly sound proof..

β β β β β Incredibly good value for money
Friendly staff. Quiet wee spot in the off-season (Late- May)
Modern and tidy amenities.
Comfortable and warm living quarters.
Good lock on door and felt safe as a solo female traveller.

β β β β β Will never stay there again
This "hotel" looks like it has suffered decades of neglected and lack of investment. room with peeling wall paper, dripping shower taps. spiderwebs, bugs, heater that fails to heat the room on a mild night in September. To top it off i had the worst night sleep, due to drunken loughs down stairs in the pub area, ( i suspected were managers mates) waken we up early morning,2-4am despite the pub beaning closed at 9pm and it was a Monday night for gods sake. I would have been better of sleeping in my truck, not worth it never again.

β β β β β A simple town with simple hotels. Criterion club hotel is not in tune with the Tao. Cramped, peeling rooms filled with the sounds of frequent bar mongrels made Mr Chow and his companions most uncomfortable. Poor network security too. Owners must not become too complacent if they want to succeed in the competitive hotel business. 1β
