★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Menu was all deep fried, although was nice and freshly cooked. Perhaps it was because it was a public holiday? Hidden away off the main street, hard to find, lacking in sign posts but staff was nice and welcoming.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I love meeting my mates for a beer at the Empire. It's totally unique... The only pub I've been to where the publican is too busy drinking, gambling and playing pool to serve his customers. Lucky the bar staff are friendly and efficient!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ It's not often that you find an old school pub that has such good value while being meticulously clean and well looked after.
Fresh paint on the outside and bright clean rooms for guests at very reasonable rates. Across the road is the Railway Station to Masterson and Wellington. Opposite are the Sports grounds. An evening walk in this quiet part of Featherstone is lovely. The host is welcoming and both helpful and friendly.
I usually stay in Wellington but the hassle of parking safely ( motorcycle ) and lugging gear to the 11th floor plus (even w elevator) is a pain. The climate is better in Wairarapa and a ride over the Rimutakas come morning is no big deal.
Come and stay here at the Empire Hotel.
Highly recommended for those on a budget. Be pleasantly surprised.
