About enableHR New Zealand

enableHR was born in 2006, when co-founder Campbell “Cam” Fisher was working at a specialist law firm stuffed full of expensive lawyers (he was one of them). He knew that running a business while complying with complicated workplace regulation wasn’t easy, especially for small and medium-sized businesses. While big clients with really big problems were happy to pay for expensive lawyers to solve those kinds of problems, smaller companies just couldn’t afford the same kind of support. He became frustrated at the firm’s inability to support these smaller clients and came up with the idea of using technology as a way to solve the very similar challenges faced by all businesses, but solve them in a fundamentally different way.

So you could say enableHR was born out of frustration, and founded on a commitment to make managing HR and legal compliance simple, accessible and affordable.

We’ve come a long way since then. The law firm is still there, as are the expensive lawyers (Cam’s still one of them), and they still look after big clients with really big problems. But now they share offices with a lively bunch of creatives, designers, software developers, product managers and programmers, and get to pour 25 years of top-tier legal experience into making everything inside enableHR legally bulletproof.

We know that a precondition of creating a great employee experience and being an employer of choice is to get the fundamentals of compliance right. Get it right, automate as much of it as you can, and you get a happier, more productive workplace.

Of course, none of this would be possible without the right people…

Hi Team Not sure if you do this, but feel free to pass on – but I just want to say how much we appreciate the Compliance report updates your teams provide. Was just asked a question about β€œhave we done …” and I was able to say β€œyes we did and we knew because of”. As it was in my mind – thought I’d just send a note. Generally we are up on what’s coming; but your precis and what you do with the info helps put it into context and I don’t have to say β€œwhat do I need to do with this information”. So thanks.

EnableHR is an incredible product, that I have no hesitation in recommending. In seven areas it completely blew me away. First, cost – for the wide range of features it offers, it is very economical and is an easy sell to executives. In addition, it is one price for everything, with no additional charges for this and that as "extras". That is a very honest way of charging for software, I think. Second, workflows – poorly defined workflows are the main way a system will become unworkable. EnableHR has clear workflows for all HR processes that are thorough, clear and easy to use, and if you use them you cannot break the system. It’s that simple. You also cannot run foul of the law. They are legally correct and are regularly reviewed and revised. Not only that, they are written to build in to the process a respect for the individual – there is a room for level of empathy and care that purely mechanistic implementation cannot achieve. That means that the system will not run counter to an organisation's culture. Third – documentation storage – it is a very capable document manager and online storage system with very capable versioning and document control. From employee information and documents, to policies, from procedures, equipment records to health and safety incidents, it is a very comprehensive and easily searchable store of every piece of information a company could need. This includes the availability of a huge amount of resources β€œfree of charge”. There are policies, template documents etc. Bulk document upload is deceptively simple and efficient – a definite β€œwow” moment. Fourth, the employee life cycle model is intuitive and clear, and very thorough. The right information is easily visible and available on screen. It’s easy to navigate, easy to find your place in the system and stay on top of tasks and projects. This is important because all systems have to be maintained, and any HR system can fall over if there is not sufficient visibility on tasks, reminders, and outstanding work. Fifth, the mobile kiosk, communications and event tracking – every employee can be given access to their own information, to policies, processes etc so that information is always readily available to them. They can operate off any device anywhere and can interact very easily with the system – for example incident reporting and management in the WHS module. Communication is easy, and the best part is that everything is logged and recorded, so it’s easy to report on projects/tasks and make sure they are on track, and also helps with proof when needed. Sixth, the support and available information for self-instruction is vast and very helpful. I was often able to solve my own challenges by reading up on line. Lastly, reporting. It knocks most competitors out of the park, and I believe there are more improvements coming. There are lots of very useful standard reports available, and each of those is customisable. Its very easy to keep tabs on the system, and to generate information that is very useful for management reporting. The main thing I like is that it is very easy to use, and strongly supports best practice HR, so complex processes (that can create issues if they go wrong), are safely left in administrative hands because the system is built and structured to remove risk. It doesn’t always need an HR expert on hand to do things right which means my time was better spent on strategic HR and not administration.

Our companies Petone Engineering Ltd and Food Machinery Services have used enableHR for over 18 mths.
