Fergs Kayaks was born from the huge success Ian Ferguson achieved as a gold-winning Olympic athlete.
Ian wanted to provide a fun and safe kayaking experience for the first time paddler as well as supporting the performance kayaking athlete. Uniquely, Fergs has two waterfront locations in Auckland and Wellington. Both stores provide a large water rental fleet. For those who prefer a land based activity there are rollerblades for hire.
Fergs Kayaks has been operating since 1990 and was the pioneer of the hugely popular night kayaking trip to Rangitoto which continues today with the same enthusiasm. Our Wellington store boasts one of the largest indoor rock walls in New Zealand and caters for first time enthusiasts to alpine climbers. We have recently invested in 40 new routes to keep the climbing experience fresh. For those who have a competitive spirit and like the challenge of surf skiing we have a demo fleet of Epic surf skis in both stores.

β β β β β The number of routes for bouldering are a bit limited with 5 grades because of the space but the courses are well designed, location is good and price is also appropriate. I went there on Saturday morning and itβs not crowded with 5 to 10 ppl.

We just done the rock climbing... So many different ways ... And they have a day pass...so we could climb ... Go and explore and go back for more...

β β β β β Rang to arrange kayaks. Was told they didn't do bookings and just come down will be fine. Came down. None available. Told to come back in 15. Didn't take our name. Came back after 15. Filled in all forms. Then told at last minute Need photo id to lodge with them as security we would return kayaks. We didn't have physical photo id. Offered credit card, cellphone and digital photo id. Wouldn't accept. Waste of time. Wasted hours in the end. Staff unfriendly. Poor comms.

β β β β β My friend and I did the evening kayaking tour with Meghan - she was amazing, very sparky and put up with our very slow paddling with great patience. The tour was beautiful, very cinematic and we even saw dolphins!
Give the woman a raise, that's what I say!

β β β β β Absolutely amazing place for rock climbing! The bouldering area gets a new wall reset every week or so. They have a couple competition style challenge walls that are very fun and changing constantly.

β β β β β Enjoyed rock climbing. They do safety check, training for beginners. They also offer student discount on a certain day during the week. Tried popping in for kayak on a nice sunny (less windy) day and all the kayaks were rented out. Would recommend booking in advance if possible. Otherwise staff is friendly and helpful and the place is good.
