About Five Knots

Jason could give Jack a run for his money as a man of all trades - spanning across the last 40 years, Jason has been dipping his toe into all pools of the hospitality world at some of New Zealand's most iconic restaurants and across some of the largest world events held in New Zealand, a highlight being the Rugby World Cup 2011. Can we unofficially say that Jason had a hand in winning us the World Cup? Maybe not, but we will anyway - thanks Jason.

Jason sees operating a venue like a rough gem, no matter what angle you look at - it's bound to sparkle and Five Knots has plenty of that! While he always goes the extra mile to make your day, what makes Jason's day is spending time with his lovely partner and son, even watching grass grow would be time well spent with these guys. He's a big New Zealand Pinot Noir fan and wouldn't mind sharing one with Elon Musk - we'll see what we can do Jason.

We walk around here every 2 days, however it's great to see a venue still being used 37+ years since my wife & I celebrated our wedding breakfast.

Lovely, scenic & windy view of Auckland port, Skycity on left & right mission bay. Enjoy Calm waves & sound as you sit inside car or outside by embankment & soak in the view. Carefully Walk down layered rocks & freshly eaten oysters by birds near sea line. Leisurely walk to mission bay for a short stretch of beach & food across the beach

Attended a function hear. The service was positively poor. Not sufficient staff for service. Food was ultimately just left on one table which difficult to access. Would definitely not hold a function at this venue.

Very poor communication. Had a viewing the person never showed up no contact at all was made. Waited around for an hour, only to be let in by the Yacht club member. Called over 20 times no answer or even a phone call response in the following days, contact was only made AFTER I called again 4 days later. Communication is very poor hence why we changed venues, I mean is COVID really to blame every single time for the lack of communication??

Hello team I had my 30th here last night. I want to express my absolute gratitude for the lovely night which wouldn't have been possible without Jason and staff. This is the second time visiting this venue for work. The carpark at the venue is a bonus and the space suited our needs. The food was delicious and the staff were professional and friendly. Whether there for work or social reasons, this venue has a picturesque view from every window.

This venue is in a great location with great views and scenery. The food was excellent however thats the only positives. I had a small wedding at this venue recently and the organization from the start should have been a warning. Staff changes mid way through planning our wedding and the staff did not show up to viewings without any communication. They apologized and promised this won't happen on our wedding day but guess what - our event coordinator never showed up. I understand things come up but they have my number and email address and the least they could do was inform me. The venue was not cleaned prior to my wedding starting. The carpet had not been vacuumed, table cloths were dirty and the bathrooms were disgusting including food in the urinal!! One of my guests helping, prior to the wedding starting, had to run around with the vacuum and found there was some broken glass on the floor! This is unacceptable when you have paying guests and we expect a certain level of cleanliness. Security provided for the event over stepped by yanking drinks from guest's hands including the groom without any conversation or explanation. She also accused one of our sober guests of being too drunk when a glass she was holding accidentally fell on the dance floor. As mentioned the main food served for dinner was excellent. However, we paid $10 per person for 2 extra canapes to be served during the cocktail hour. We paid for 40 guests (as that was their minimum guest number) but only had 32 guests at our wedding. Yet there was not enough canapes served for all guests to the point that guests had to ask for extra food to be served as they were still hungry and didn't even get a single canape. I don't understand how we were charged $400 extra but not served $400 worth of food. Even down to the small things like floor and table layouts and the colour of the table cloths were wrong when I turned up, and as there were no staff around to change them my guest and I had to re-arrange them to the agreed upon layout. Later found out the requested table cloth colour could not be sourced and this was never communicated to us. Everyone enjoyed the night but when you pay money for a venue, you expect to get what you ask for, at a reasonable standard. Poor communication, not showing up to meetings or the event night and when questioned about these items, they gave us unacceptable excuses such as covid for the venue not being clean! I do not recommend this venue. Well the venue I do but not the event staff.

Love love love this place! Seeing all these bad reviews but I had such a good time I’m writing this review the same day! We loved the food and it was definitely worth our money, the staff omgg 10/10 i don’t know if “Jason” is the owner but him and his team did a fabulous job, my family is really complicated so everyone kept switching seats which made it harder for the server but he definitely made his job look super easy and was very understanding. We only had 40 people and they only had a team of 3 and still managed to get our food out on time with ZERO complaints from our guest. Other then that the view is beautiful, heaps of car park and venue is clean. THANK YOU THANK YOU! You and your team definitely made our night even better! Definitely recommend!!
