About Mission Bay Watersports
Mission Bay Watersports is one of Auckland’s longest running paddle sport centers and is run by a world class team of sea loving educators. We employ instructors who, like us, are experienced sea kayakers and SUP paddlers with a personal commitment and passion for conservation and paddling. Irrespective of their own experience, new staff undergo a detailed training program specific to the Hauraki Gulf conditions. As paddlers who love the ocean, we are at our best when we are on the sea sharing with others our skills, experience, knowledge, passion and commitment.
Mission Bay Watersports is a Surfing New Zealand approved SUP school and accredited with the International Surfing Association.
History of Mission Bay Watersports
Mission Bay has long been a base for adventure in Auckland. During WWII, the beach was used as a pilot training area where ‘would be’ fighter pilots learned to fly in sea planes. When the craze of windsurfing hit New Zealand in the 1980’s, Mission Bay Watersports became part of the furniture on the white sand when the first windsurf shop opened and operated a training school around 30 years ago.
Throughout it’s proud history, Mission Bay Watersports has provided safe, expert instruction in both sail and paddle sports. It has always been operated by professionals who are highly skilled, registered and well-recognised within the industry. About Stand Up Paddleboarding
Stand Up Paddleboarding is a fast growing sport that everyone can enjoy! Centuries ago Hawaiians used paddle boards for fishing and traveling short distances. In recent years surfers in Hawaii made the sport known to the public. Nowadays the best board shapers are utilising the latest materials and technology and can produce a stable and fun board for virtually anyone!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Had an awesome time paddling around Mission Bay in a double kayak, on a beautiful day. Staff are super helpful, and gave us some great kayaking tips and safety info. Spent an hour paddling around enjoying the beautiful scenery of Mission Bay and nearby Rangitoto volcano. Highly recommended.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Thoroughly enjoyed my private SUP lesson with Mission Bay Water Sports. A quick 10min run through of the basics on the beach then into the water. The instructor was great, good coaching and good conversation. The location is hard to beat. Highly recommended.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Kayak was a great experience! The lady that guided us how to paddle, how to put on the jackets, etc. was very friendly and polite. However, it’s a shame that the young gentleman at the end of the shift was quite impolite! He even kicked the kayak as an indication to stop (without proper verbal communication) while my wife was carrying the kayak with me. She even feels the pain in the arm! That was not kiwi in anyways!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I've been using this rental shop over 2 years, and I brought my friends here to have some SUP experience today. The staff are friendly and nice as usual, they give some instruction before start paddling up.
My friends really enjoyed today, I wish they have another store at Milford as well so I can introduce other friends. Happy to visit again.

Absolute great fun on and IN the water.?
Everything was in our favour. Weather, smooth water, fun attitude and Sarah the instructor is a diamond. Friendly, patient, clear and concise with instructions and onshore demonstration.
