β β β β β Mike is a highly professional and enthusiastic guide who gives everything to provide a unforgettable fly fishing experience...even if it means to work way beyond the business hours, like in my case ?. If you want to learn from a A-Class angler and if you want to go home with a picture of the βfish of a lifetimeβ, Mike and Latitude Guiding is the way to go. Besides, he is a funny and nice guy to.

β β β β β Iβve been fishing in NZ for over twenty years. In that time Iβve had my fair share of guides from every region of the South Island. Of those Iβve had, I could number but a very few who I would say meet my expectations of what a guide should be - honest, relentlessly hard working, personable, supernaturally skilful, a natural communicator of knowledge and a great bloke. Mike is one of less than a handful of guides that Iβve been privileged to have that easily qualifies into these categories. I seldom use the same guide more than a few times, however, I will be back with Mike annually without hesitation such is his incredible knowledge of his region, trout and their environment. It will take just about a lifetime to acquire some of the knowledge Mike has about the subtleties of fishing in NZ and in just one trip I feel the information I gained and the improvements made during my time with Mike has subsequently improved my chances tenfold with every fish I meet. I can wholeheartedly say that if youβre thinking about using a guide in NZ look no further β just book. And be ready to learn and experience the pinnacle of what NZ trout fishing has to offer with one of NZβs best guides.

β β β β β I first found out about Mike Kirkpatrick and Latitude guiding on YouTube and decided I would book at 3 day trip with him for my 50th. I waited about 18 months to get there and my decision to wait was the best thing I did. The whole trip from when Mike picked me up from the airport was something I will never forget. The attention to detail was amazing I would say Nans who's Mikes wife runs a very well organised ship. Mike said to me this is the pinnacle of fly fishing in New Zealand and it doesn't get any harder boy was he right if I was on my A game I would have landed close to 30 fish in 3 days but managed 13 which I was stoked with. If anyone here in New Zealand or anywhere in the world wants a trip of a lifetime there is no better guiding company to go with I will be going back for sure.

β β β β β Had a great time on the river with Mike. He has a true passion for fly fishing and wanting his client to do well on the river. We did a 3 day trip under tough conditions and landed some very large Browns! Mike is spot on with his tactics and will give you many opportunities to catch fish. I recommend Mike and Latitude Guiding to anyone!

β β β β β Absolutely amazing guide and amazing admin (Nans) I had Mike in 2018 and 2019, really talented guide and gives you exactly what you need. We had great fishing, landing 29big fish in 3days and Stunning places we walked into and helli. If you want great fishing in NZ no matter skill level, hire a guide and your trip will become amazing!

β β β β β Having never fly fished before (plenty of time spin fishing for trout) Mike taught me how to cast over several sessions in a park. We then went out for a day on the river and with his guidance, I managed to catch several fish around 6-8lb. His ability to spot fish in the water and determine how they were feeding was uncanny - it took me a while to see the fish even with him telling me where the fish was. I have been back to fish the rivers by myself and haven't caught anything close to the same as when I was fishing with Mike (probably walked past the fish and never saw them!). Definitely would recommend Mike for his knowledge and xray vision.

β β β β β I had a fantastic trip with Mike over December 2020 and despite difficult weather conditions and some fussy fish, he managed to get me several fish all above my previous Personal Best. Biggest being 9lb and two fish in double digit territory that got the better of me.
First day and a half my fishing was a little rusty, but with some strong discussions, Mike eventually got me to understand what was required in order to land these incredible fish.
To say Mike knows his stuff is a massive understatement. From the first interaction with his lovely wife Nans who manages the bookings and personal details, to sight casting to possibly the best fish in the world, Mike is hands down one of the best I have had the privilege to fish alongside. His 20 years guiding experience and understanding of the area, weather and feeding patterns of the fish is second to none.
If you haven't had a chance to fish with Mike or Southern Latitude Guides, just get out there and do it. It is money well spent to help get your fish of a lifetime. Long story short you get what you pay for.

β β β β β My brother and I spent 3 days with Mike Kirkpatrick with Latitude Guiding and I can't say enough about his Fly Fishing knowledge and professionalism. Mike was very patient with us and gave a tremendous amount of instruction that not only helped us in New Zealand to catch these trophy size brown trout but will help us forever as fly fisherman.
Another thing too is how organized they are all because of Nans.. she is amazing and will get everything completely taken care of right down to the last detail.
I highly recommend the whole crew at Latitude Guiding and my brother and I will certainly be back to fish again with them.
