Forbidden City Restaurant - Hutt Central
I’m a big foodie and have eaten at a great many restaurants and takeouts across New Zealand. Forbidden City is a class above and undoubtedly my favourite. I’ve dined at restaurant numerous times and every single time the food is insanely delicious. The dumplings, dim sum, wontons, fried noodles, sweet and sour fish, salt and pepper squid, braised eggplant - every dish at this restaurant is amazingly tasteful and something I crave daily. If you’re looking for authentic and absolutely delicious Chinese cuisine - make sure you check this gem out!

β β β β β Quaint traditional Chinese restaurant. A cosy warm environment with decent food and friendly efficient service. The Peking Duck is very generous in size along with all the bells and whistles that come with it. A worthwhile visit.

β β β β β The worst case of customer service I have ever witness. The main waiter told a customer who inquired whether the fired rice had egg in it was told to shut his mouth and sit down. The same rude waiter then proceeded to throw the dishes of food on the table. Will never go back. You have been warned.

β β β β β The eggplant dish and the double cooked lamb were just amazing! The fish was humongous. Very speedy service, but it felt like the people serving were not interested in serving. But the food made up for it. To my surprise, they are one of the few good Halal certified restaurants.

β β β β β Great food with good sized portions. Friendly staff. Based in the Lower Hutt CBD on Queens drive, so parking is good after-hours on the side. Would recommend them if you are looking for some good Chinese food to sit in and eat or takeaways.

β β β β β Waiter extremely rude. Today we went with a vegan friend, asked twice nicely that we didnβt want egg in the veggie dish. They added anyway. When we asked them why thereβs egg, the guy told us to shut up and sit down. This is unbelievable. Weβve never been treated like this anywhere else. Wonβt recommend, not sure if they just hate vegan people or what.

β β β β β Ordered 4 or 5 takeaway dishes from this restaurant recently -they let me know the food might take a few minutes to prepare but despite the fact that they were incredibly busy, it was ready pretty quick. All of the dishes were still piping hot when we got them home and the food was absolutely delicious, best Chinese I have had in ages. Also good value for money. Have already recommended to a few friends and we will definitely be back :)
