Worst hostel I've been to in NZ. First Bathrooms are really dirty. Staff is unfriendly. They asked me to move bed from a bottom bunk to the other one because they said they have other guest sleeping there. After I moved the bed I realised no one will even sleep in that bed! Another thing the wouldn't let me have breakfast. I wanted to go in the kitchen at 6:30 with my own stuff. And the guy told me I am not allowed to have breakfast. Guess what I needed to eat in the hall. Not my problem. I wouldn't recommend this hostel to anyone not even a Person I hate.

Under new management and seems to have undergone a bit of change comparing it to past reviews. Place seems to be kept very clean, WiFi works well. Very comfortable bed, good price. Lots of quirky artwork. Big common area. Well located in the centre of town. Manager Ben very helpful and knowledgeable about the local area.

I visited here on my trip to NZ last year. Really friendly people which was awesome. Rooms were clean, as was the kitchen area. Unless it's changed, just be aware there's no parking near by so you will need to have a bit of a walk if you're driving. But hey! Cool statue in opening foyer makes up for it!

The only nice thing in this place is the huge alien statue in the reception area. Very impressive. I wouldn't recommend going any further. We stayed there a few months ago, so I hope for everyone that it might have changed, but I seriously doubt it. -The mattresses are even for backpacker standards uncomfortable and thin. -even though the website says that they have parking spaces, they have not. It's on street parking and you have to moove your car every few hours to not get a ticket. -the free breakfast is admittedly not too bad (toast/spreads and cereals) but touching anything in this kitchen just feels wrong. Everything is sticky and dirty and you can see, that the housekeeping team only does the necessary (if even). Again, I am aware that especially in backpacker hostels is a big turn over on guests and staff, so that might have changed as well. But an work attitude is mostly handed over to the next generation... -the guests aren't better. Bad place, bad guests I guess. Don't leave your stuff unattended. Not in the rooms and not in the kitchen/fridge. It's very likely it will be gone. -there is an balcony-smoking area. It's in the middle of the building.... the windows are partly facing this balcony. Ergo, the whole place smells of cigarettes. (Also the owner seems to be smoking at the entrance) -I've seen a lot of bad hostels on my travels. I could have handled all of this for one or two nights. Especially since it is in a very convenient area, close to the city centre of a magnificent city. The one thing that completely made this place a no go for me was, that we had to clean an wash our whole inventory because of those f****** bedbugs!!! So don't go. Free breakfast is not worth being covered in bites.

A real decent hostel, stayed in the private room with my girlfriend. The room was clean and modern looking the view looking otto the other wall was a bit doleful but overall really good place to stay I'll, it's quite central and close to many amenities! The hostel was in the middle of getting refurbished when we were there but it wasn't a bother. The place was near enough complete and was looking really good! They have a nice common room and a big kitchen to cook! The breakfast is free and a good filler till lunch! I'd recommend staying here for sure!

This is a sorry excuse for a hostel. Half of the hostel smells strongly of mold, and the other half smells like cigarettes, it's obvious people have been smoking in the rooms. Everyone who stays there seems to have a terrible cough - it's no wonder why with the mold and smell. We booked because it was the cheapest online and had a free breakfast. Most of the place is in a state of total disrepair, beds and furniture falling apart, toilet seats missing. The staff was hit or miss, one girl was very rude and dismissive, but the next was quite pleasant and helpful. Free breakfast was just cheap toast and cereal, but there was tons of jam, ample milk and coffee and tea, so no complaints there. Unfortunately the breakfast doesn't quite make up for the rest of the hostel. DO NOT STAY HERE UNTIL IT GETS A FUMIGATION.

This is an awesome hostel! There is sweet art everywhere, the staff are so friendly and they serve a free breakfast of cereal, toast and jam and coffee/tea! The kitchen is huge and well stocked w everything you need to cook! We were stoked about this place because they have a double bed in a dorm which is unheard of so my boyfriend and I got to sleep together comfortably! Great location and great price! ?
