Vietnamese cuisine is my favourite. Ever since my trip to Vietnam in 2019, I've been on the search for an authentic bun cha.
Bun Cha Huong Lien in Hanoi just hooked me with their specialty dish and so far, I haven't been able to find a place abroad matching the same rich flavour. Until I found this place, which is cheesy but true.
Here, the execution is different. The noodles are different. The spring rolls are missing as well as the herbs (I'm not too big on herbs anyway). Lemon vs lime etc. But I'm willing to look past all of that as long as the flavour is there. And it is! It's really delicious.
We also tried the bun ca, fish soup. It was quite spicy (for someone who doesn't handle spicy too well) but really nice, too. I'll definitely return to try more things. So bored of all the fusion restaurants everywhere. This really nails it for me.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Hanoi Eatery has become my regular go-to spot for Vietnamese food in the central city. Great selection of food. Their Bun Ca (fried fish noodle soup), Pho Bo (beef noodle soup) and Crab noodle soup are my top picks. The crab noodle soup is quite unique, and I would say a rare and authentic find in New Zealand. The owners themselves are Vietnamese and very friendly. Highly recommended.

The food was good, coffee was average. I believe vietnamese coffee takes a different approach to the age old drink, it's been noted that the specific coffee they use is not of typical of the traditional Vietnamese brewing methods. Hence the inauthentic taste of the beverage.
Nonetheless, the food was great. A must revisit!
