β β β β β Worthable to go just for $5. Nicely decorate and interesting history. They got sone whisky chocolate for sale at the entrance as well.

β β β β β A fascinating story of a Scottish family "gang" who set up illegal whiskey stills in the Hokonui Mountains and sold their bootleg liquor to Gore residents.
Gore has placed the museum opposite the Eastern Southland Art Gallery with good parking taking in both venues.
It is well worth stopping in Gore to take in this history.

β β β β β Some interesting history. Seeing a number of 'worms' isn't really that exciting. The moonshine itself at the end of the tour was pretty revolting - there are three varieties on offer. You can check out the other museum as you are leaving. Staff friendly.

β β β β β This is a fascinating museum for an affordable price. Something different to your ususal museum experience with excellent displays that you would expect in a big city museum. Starting with a quick history of whisky in Scotland and quickly moving on to the battle between distillers and temperance societies during prohibition in the region around the turn of the century. There is also a free local museum located here which is well worth the visit.
