★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Booked Hooked Up for our Staff Xmas do last December and we had an AWESOME day out with Captain Laurie! Booking was straight forward, he had all the gear etc available, the boat was QUICK getting us out & back into the harbor in no time, and given that it was a private charter, it was really affordable. Skip was very accommodating, taking us out on a windy Sunday, and he even kept us out longer to try and reel in a few more fish.
Highly recommend to anyone looking for a good time out on the water! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ ?

It was a great way to spend a boys trip, caught plenty of fish and were taught a few knew methods of fishing, which resulted in a rather large king fish. Thank you

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We enjoyed a successful day on the Hauraki Gulf, leaving Half Moon Bay and heading to Channel island to initially chase kingfish after a stop off near Waiheke to load up on jack mackerel livebaits.
One of the anglers on board had two personal goals - the catch his first kingfish and to land a snapper using a lure - both boxes were ticked.
We landed several modest kingfish in the 10-12kg bracket, as well as 'enjoying' an encounter with a 120kg est. mako shark which put on an impressive aerial display.
We found some snapper under the terns and what I suspect was an anchovy school, catching plenty to take home. In all, a good day's fishing catch wise.
Hooked Up is a great boat (an Extreme 795 Walk Around) for this style of fishing, with plenty of room to fish up to six anglers on the drift, thanks to its walk around configuration and the caged swim step.
The tackle on board is adequate for the job, especially for snapper.
He runs a range of Catch lures for snapper fishing and will mix up bait and lure fishing depending on what is working.
We had all our own gear, including a range of the latest Daiwa rods and reels and a selection of Kohga Bay Rubber Free kabura-style lures brought on board by Brittain Wynyard's Scotty Malcon for us to play with. If you are a serious angler, I suggest you bring along a couple of your own favourite set-ups for snapper and kingfish.
Owner/operator Laurie Powell is an affable character who has been fishing the Hauraki Gulf extensively over 30 years as a recreational angler.
There are a few things he needs to work on but is aware of these and has already put measures in place to turn a good operation into an excellent one.
