Howick Primary School - Howick

Howick Primary School is a decile 8, urban primary school in East Auckland which features vast and picturesque grounds. It comprises over 350 students from Year 1 to Year 6 and includes​ the Montessori Academy, which caters for students from age 6 to 11.

We are located 1.2 kilometres from the centre of popular Howick Village. It was established on Willoughby Avenue approximately 58 years ago after moving from the original school site on the corner of Botany Road and Howick/Pakuranga Highway, which is currently occupied by Howick Intermediate School.

Howick Primary School is well equipped with 17 classrooms, a swimming pool, library, hall, teacher resource centre, professional learning and development room, ​English ​language room,​ outdoor classroom for sustainability education​,​ Native tree planting area, Out of School Care facilities,​ senior and junior playground areas, and a sandpit.

We use modern, up to date tools to access learning such as touch panel TVs, Chrome books, tablets etc to enhance educational opportunities for all learners and enables online, any place, anytime learning . Our bright and child-centred library has a wide range of books – both hard and digital copies, with devices available for three dimensional engagement. Each class is developing a maker space to enable students to explore and create technological solutions. 

Our highly skilled Music Specialist conducts our two choirs, teaches all classes music and teaches singing to all students. Students can join several instrumental groups and be tutored by external tutors in guitar,drums, ukulele, piano, etc. 

Howick Primary School has both a Special Needs Coordinator and Learning Support coordinator who oversee students with special needs as well as our gifted and talented students. We have an English Learning Teacher for our English Second Language students. 

We are an Enviro school with a part-time teacher dedicated to whole school infusion of future focused sustainability principles. We have an orchard, beehives and outdoor classroom around our current vege gardens to support learning as well as composting, worm farms and bokashi bins to forge a zero waste agenda. We are a “Garden to Table” school where students learn how to Grow, Harvest, Prepare and Share food from our own gardens.
